Monday Morning Encouragement - By the Word of God

"'Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?' Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures." Luke 24:26-27

The great preacher D.L. Moody once said, “I prayed for faith and thought that some day it would come down and strike me like lightning. But faith didn’t seem to come. One day I read in Romans that “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God." I had up to this time closed my Bible and prayed for faith. Now I opened my Bible and began to study, and faith has been growing ever since!"

The two men on the road to Emmaus, didn't have the faith to understand the suffering and death of Christ, nor fully believe His resurrection, until Jesus "explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures."

If they had been familiar with Moses and the prophets they would have known that the Messiah would have to suffer and die before He would be glorified.  We know from the rest of Luke 24 that after Jesus taught them these things their eyes were opened to who He was, and they remarked how their "hearts burned" within them.

God's word builds faith. If we want to know Him and have the faith that warms our hearts, we need to spend time studying the Bible.

Faith doesn't come like a lightning bolt, but by the word of God.

Today's music video Ancient Words by Michael W. Smith is a beautiful song of hope and peace found in the words of the Bible. Ancient words that are still as relevant today as they were when they were first given. I hope you will find this song as comforting as I have.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

  1. Reading my Bible gives me so much comfort and peace in my heart as the world seems to be spinning out of control more and more. The words in the Bible never change and never let us down. Peace to you on this Monday morning.
    Blessings,

    1. You are so right, Betsy. The Bible is more precious to me today than ever before. When I don't understand what's going on, God's word assures me that He does! I can rest in the knowledge that He's got this. xo

  2. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11. Recently, I was (re)challenged to memorize Scripture--a timely reminder.

  4. Opening God's Word reading it on our own and also so important to be hearing it preached precept upon precept and explained by men who God has entrusted His Word to. So much to see, hear and learn during our time on earth. Thank you for this encouragement today, Nancy.

    1. Ellen, thank you for your comment. I'm grateful for the pastors and Bible scholars God has placed in my life, either personally or through the radio (and now the internet). I have learned so much from them. Blessings. xo

  5. Thank you Nancy.. for the beautiful reminder that I need to read the Bible more! I open it now and then, when I'm seeking an answer to something.. but this song made me realize that there are MANY words in the Bible that I have not even seen! One of my all time favorite scriptures is "This is the Day the Lord has made, Let us Rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24 I have played that in my head many times, since I was in my 20's.. when I needed to remind myself that each day will bring some joy, no matter what the circumstances...... xoxoo Marilyn

    1. Marilyn, we can spend all our lives immersed in scripture and yet still there will be more to know and learn. That's the beauty of God's word, it is living and active and always, always teaching us. God bless you. xo

  6. What a blessing this post is! I haven't heard that song in a long time, but I feel it's more appropriate than ever, in these days when those ancient words are so often ignored and deemed inappropriate.
I appreciate your message about the importance of getting into the word too.
