My budget-friendly laundry makeover is complete and I'm excited to share it with you. Warning: This post is packed with photos.
As I showed you last week, this is the laundry before the makeover. It was in sore need of a re-do.
Since the crown molding was missing from one of the cabinets, I removed it from the other cabinet, and placed Dollar General baskets on the tops.
I used the same process to paint these cabinets as I did in my kitchen: Rustoleum White Linen chalk paint on the cabinets with light distressing, and Rustoleum spray paint in black matte for the cabinet hinges. I sealed the cabinets with Magnolia clear wax.
The new cabinet knobs were the inspiration for the laundry's bee theme. I found them at Hobby Lobby on sale for 50% off. As soon as I saw them I knew they belonged in my mobile cottage, and I thought the laundry would be the perfect place.
The "Queen Bee Laundry Co." print is from Etsy. I mounted it on dropcloth and placed it in a thrifted frame I made over.
More thrift store makeovers include this white wall pocket.
And a wall basket that holds dryer balls. The black hanger came from Dollar General.
The laundry is an alcove in the hallway that leads from the living room to the craft room, the guest bedroom, and the guest bath. I added decor to the hallway to freshen it up and tie it in with the bee theme. The rug was repurposed from my kitchen.
I either shopped my home or used thrift store purchases and DIY's for the gallery wall. The three bees artwork came with the Queen Bee Laundry Co. print, and at $7.50 is the most expensive piece on the wall. I used antique dark wax to give it an aged look.
Eventually I'd like to replace the utilitarian back door with something prettier, but right now it's low on the expenditure list.
To camouflage it, I covered it with a thrifted curtain I had on hand. I think I only paid $2 for it. This is an emergency exit of sorts, and the light curtain keeps the door easily accessible, if necessary.
I covered the cabinet shelves with Dollar Tree contact paper I had on hand.
This was a really fun project that came together quickly. The kind I like best!
Hope you're having a good weekend. It's 100 degrees here today. 😓
Hugs,
You have been a busy bee! :)
ReplyDeleteThe laundry looks so nice and I like your bee theme. The cabinets look like new!
Thanks. It's amazing what a couple of coats of paint can do to old cabinets, Mari! :) xo
DeleteI absolutely adore your laundry room makover. When we redid our bathroom last December, the laundry closet in the bathroom was also repainted. I had two cabinets installed like yours. Mine are gray to match the vanity. My husband put a shelf between the cabinets so I could put a bottle of detergent on it and pour from the shelf. I also have a wicker basket with cloth liner on top of each cabinet! Great minds think alike.
ReplyDeleteI love my laundry area now! I would love to have a manufactured home in a 55+ community someday but I don't know that they even have them here because of the tornado risk.
Have a lovely week.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Betsy, I remember the post you did on your bathroom and laundry area redo, and how great it looks now. I was curious about your comment regarding manufactured home communities in Spokane, so I did a quick search for 55+ communities. Turns out there are a number of them. One is on the river and I was surprised to see how modest the lot rent is, especially since there are a ton of amenities for the residents, such as a swimming pool, library, fitness room, activities., etc.. We don't have any of those things in our little 41 lot community and our lot rent while not the highest in the area, is not cheap. They've raised the rent a couple of times since I moved in. Still the least expensive in the area though, so I'm not complaining. The cost of living in general is high in Colorado. If it weren't for the fact that my son and his family live near me, I wouldn't choose to live here.
DeleteYou have a knack for making beautiful! And you are resourceful to do it inexpensively. ☀️
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words. I'm thankful that I have three really great thrift stores near me where I can finds things I need for my home. xo
DeleteAmazing transformation and so, so cute. BTW, what are you doing responding to comments in the middle of the night, when you should be sleeping! LOL.....
ReplyDeleteHah! The middle of the night is when I get up to go to work. I have to be there by 4:00 AM. :)
DeleteLove it all Nancy. You did a great job. Have a great new week. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kris. xo
Deletedo you rent your mobile home space?
ReplyDeleteLinda, I live in a 55+ mobile home park where residents own their homes and pay monthly rent for the lot.
DeleteYour laundry area is so cute! It must make doing laundry so much more pleasant now. I just love the bee cabinet knobs. What a fun addition to the theme.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anna. Hobby Lobby is a great place to find unusual knobs and waiting until they're 50% off is super easy on the wallet! xo
DeleteNancy, you did a great job with your laundry room. It looks so nice which makes it easier to do laundry. Very pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, Diane, that I'm a little more excited about doing laundry now. ;)
DeleteI am always amazed at the ways you make mundane places (and things) like a laundry room look so enviting. We were 4 degrees cooler than you...
ReplyDeleteThank you for these kind words. I appreciate them. xo
DeleteThey way you take a cast off and turn it into something to behold, is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour laundry nook is sweet and easy on the eyes. Clean, fresh and neat.
You're so nice, Christine. Thank you! xo
ReplyDeleteThe newly decorated, quite tastefully by the way, laundry area and the hall way will
ReplyDeletemake the trip back and forth past the area so pleasant. Love the Queen Bee ideas you have going there, as I do enjoy nature and bees are a great part of it. Lynn and Precious xx
So true. I am enjoying the new view in the hall, Lynn. xo
DeleteLove how you brought your laundry space together. It looks so nice and fresh and inviting. Well done putting all the pieces together!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ellen. It's nice to have a refreshed laundry space. xo
DeleteNancy, the room looks fantastic! I love the new fresh feel and all the charming details. It fits in perfectly with your style. I love a seamless home design. I also love the contact paper. I think you mentioned you had the same one when I shared my desk board. We are a Dollar Tree decorating duo!! xo
ReplyDeleteLOL. Yup. We should collaborate for a Dollar Tree Challenge! Hugs.
DeleteI knew it would be beautiful Nancy. I love the bee theme, and the door knobs are gorgeous. The vignette in the hallway is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Polly. :) xo
DeleteI could see how it WOULD be more fun to do laundry now! Your space is just adorable and fun. I love those bee knobs.. and the pictures, and bee print, and the wall pockets you've so cleverly used! I've used that same shelf covering from Dollar Tree all over my kitchen cabinets inside when we moved here! I love it and still have some left. It's funny how when we make over an area or a room, it feels brand new for awhile! I need to find some dropcloth fabric.. as I love the look in frames. All I could find at our local hardware store are those cheap plastic ones! Take care.. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteYou're right about how brand new a space feels after we make it over, Marilyn. It's always nice to freshen up a room. If you live near a Wal-mart, you can find drop cloths there for a good price. That's where I buy mine. Have a great new week! xo
DeleteYour laundry room is adorable as well as functional! Love the bee theme. The bee cabinets knobs were a good find.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donna, for leaving such a nice comment. The knobs were my inspiration, as I think I mentioned in my post. Hobby Lobby is a great place to find cabinet and drawer hardware. Hugs.
