Monday Morning Encouragement -- Abundant Comfort

"For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ." 2 Corinthians 1:5

When I first became a Christian, I thought all my troubles would end. In truth, my greatest trials came after I gave my life to Christ. But through each sad event the Lord comforted me. The deeper my sorrow, the greater His solace.

A. W. Tozer said, “Before God can use a person greatly, He must allow that person to be hurt deeply.”

As much as we hate the process, the truth is we learn more about compassion and how to comfort others when we've been hurt ourselves and have experienced healing through Jesus. I do not believe for a moment that God takes pleasure in our pain, but He being omniscient can see the beauty and grace that will eventually come through our suffering, and can see us one day ministering to others with understanding and mercy. In that He takes great delight.

Today's music video The Purpose In The Pain written and performed by Matt Hybarger, worship leader at Christian Faith Fellowship in Ft. Worth, TX, speaks to the faithfulness of God to comfort us in our pain.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

  1. Did you see the last episode of the Chosen for season 3? Jesus talks to Simon about this very thing. He's always with us in our troubles and suffering. It is also for us to draw closer to him. Thank you, sweet Nancy!

    1. Yes, I agree with you. When we are hurting, it is the hurt that drives us into our Savior's arms if we have learned to trust Him. xx

  2. Thank you for the encouraging words this morning. I have been reading your posts my entire time away and they have kept me encouraged all the while away from Dennis and our church family.

  5. I always feel when thing are tough that is when we find comfort in Jesus. I feel everything in our life happens for a reason to either teach us or have us or strengthen our faith. I have had that several times in my own life. Have a nice Valentine's Day tomorrow. Hugs. Kris

  7. I am finally having time to stop by to visit you, and I so appreciated this post. You are SO right. It reminds me of 2 Cor. 1:3, "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." If we never experienced His comfort, we would not understand or know how to comfort others. I am so grateful for your steady encouragement, dear friend. I so appreciate you remaining faithful to God's call on your life!

  8. Nancy, I can tell that you are writing this post from experience and that experience is the very reason that your posts hit home with us all. It give us a solid foundation to speak, when we have experienced the truth of our words. Otherwise those words become just noise without substance.
    God bless you sweet friend.

  9. So beautifully written and shared Nancy. So many times I have wondered the reason for my pain, only to find out later that I needed to share my experience with how the Lord moved in my life with someone else. He never brings the pain without gain that He uses. Blessings to you dear friend!
