Guest Bath Progress

My guest bath project made significant progress last week. On Monday the electrician installed the new light fixture. Then, on Thursday my counter top guy came and replaced the old vanity top with the new one. The plumber, who was also onsite at the time, installed the new sink and faucet, as well as the new toilet.

Just to remind you of how the bathroom looked prior to these changes, here's the before photo.

I worked some overtime in July and received some unexpected money, which enabled me to move forward with these changes.

While I was waiting for the vanity top and the fixtures to arrive, I removed all the bathroom accessories and the batten strips, and began patching and taping the walls.

I also removed the medicine cabinet, and will transform the space into a niche shelf.

I found a niche shelf at the Habitat Restore for $9 that I hope I can adapt to the space.

At another thrift store I found a mirror that I'm going to make over and hang above the sink.

I've already removed the old mirror, which was no small feat. It was glued to the wall with a bazillion ounces of glue. (Well, not quite a bazillion, but certainly a lot!)

There's still a lot of work to do to make this guest bath live up to my vision, but I've learned with all the other room makeovers I've completed that little by little gets the job done.

Hugs,

  1. I really like the new light fixture and I'm sure the room will turn out as beautiful as the rest of your projects. I wondered if you could remove the batten in manufactured homes. I've never liked them either. I will be watching for what you decide to do in this little room that everyone sees. :-)
    Blessings,

    1. Yes, Betsy, the batten strips absolutely can be removed. It's a straight forward, simple process and gives the walls a clean look, and makes the mobile home look more like a house. :)

  2. Nancy, the bath room is certainly transforming so nicely. I really like the new faucet instead of the stubby one it had. And that old toilet seat, wood so dated. Do I see the vanity top is very similar to your new kitchen counters? I hope you can fit the new open shelving into the old med. cabinet opening, it would be fun to add a decoration or two along with necessary bath items. Lynn and Precious xx

  5. A lovely guest bath, Nancy, ours is in need of a change, but it is way down on the list of projects, it seems our list keeps growing. I agree doing a little at a time soon gets the job done, a lesson I have only recently learned as they say "age takes care of everything." ~wink~
I am so looking forward to cooler weather to complete a few of our outside projects,
Thank you for visiting and for your sweet comment.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  6. Wow Nancy you've got a good start! It's alot of work to do that kind of reno! That mirror will be gorgeous.. and the niche shelf just perfect. I think you will love it. One of my fave garage sale finds is a wicker shelf I got for $3 and then painted it white, and I just love it in my bathroom, every time I look at it! I bet your vanity will be white too? The one in my bathroom is the dark old wood and one of these days I WILL paint it! Have fun with this, and congrats for a little extra money to do the job! Marilyn

  7. Wow, someone really didn't want that mirror coming off! They didn't reckon with your persistent, though. Good work and I love how the transformation is coming along. Every little step must be so exciting for you.
