"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26
We have all heard or read stories about the heroes of September 11, 2001. People who sacrificed their own lives to save the lives of others during the devastating terrorist attack on the twin towers. Their stories touch our hearts and inspire us.
The story of bond trader Al Braca is one that should stir the heart of every Christian, and inspire us to be ready to share the gospel whenever God appoints the time.
Al was on the 104th floor of the first tower when it was hit. Soon after the second tower was hit, and by that time Al and his co-workers knew that there was no time left. They were going to die.
From accounts by surviving family members of Al's co-workers who were able to call home and leave messages before they lost their lives, Al's story emerges. His co-workers knew he was a believer in Jesus Christ, and had often made fun of him and his faith. That didn't stop Al from living his life dedicated to Christ and praying for his associates. On the fateful day of 9/11, Al climbed up on a desk and called out to his co-workers, "I'm going to Heaven -- who's coming with me?" And with that Al proceeded to share the gospel and lead his co-workers to Christ.
God was and is Al's portion. On earth he was content with God and all the blessings He had provided; his wife and his family. He didn't need anything else. Al was an elder in his church and lived an authentic Christian life. And now in Heaven he has the reward of eternity with his Savior, as well as those co-workers that gave their lives to Christ through his faithful service to the Lord.
Today's music video My Portion by Shane and Shane reminds us that Jesus is our portion and evermore shall be!
I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
What a beautiful way for Al to invite his coworkers to hear the gospel. I so hope all that who were there with him believed!
