Grab the Drop Cloth and Let's Make a Fall Rag Wreath!

When one of my favorite Youtubers featured a DIY drop cloth rag wreath during her fall decor video, this crafty girl knew she had found her 2022 fall door wreath.

This is a budget-friendly, easy-to-make wreath and no glue is required. It works with just about any decor style: shabby chic, cottage, farmhouse, boho, coastal. . .you name it.

If you're interested in making a wreath like this, then read on for a quick tutorial.

1. You'll need a wire wreath form. This is a 12" form that I bought at Walmart for a few dollars.

2. Drop cloth strips. Of course, you don't have to use drop cloth for a rag wreath. Any fabric will do. I like the look of drop cloth, and had plenty of drop cloth leftover from other projects. A win-win for me.

I cut my strips 7" long and about 1-1/4" wide. I can't tell you how many strips it took to make the wreath because I had various random remnants that I used for this project. So, I just kept cutting and tying strips until I finished. I'm going to take a wild guess and say about half of a full drop cloth for one 12" wreath would be enough.

3. Tie the strips around the wire form. Start at the top.

Keep tying and pushing the strips over to one side of a section until full. I packed mine for a really full look.

Push the tails of the strip upward to make enough room to start the second row. Keep tying and pushing until the whole form is filled in. Push the ties down so they face forward, and fluff.

4. Embellish.

I chose to make a bow using some fall ribbon I found at Walmart.

And there you have it. An easy peasy fall wreath.

This was a project I worked on while watching TV, because let's face it. . .cutting, and tying strips on wire can be pretty boring. Once I got going, it went pretty fast.

Instead of a bow, I could see a fall sign, or mini pumpkins or wheat or sunflowers added to the drop cloth wreath. I also saw a drop cloth and ticking wreath on Pinterest that I loved. Some day I may try that!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Hugs,

  1. This would be a fun and easy craft to do. And I like it that it doesn't require any kind of tool such as a hot glue gun. I can think of different colors for every season to use and embellish with flowers and ribbons so this is a great idea thanks. Lynn and Precious XX

    1. Oh yes! Red, white and blue for July 4th, pastel colors for spring, and, of course, Christmas colors would be fun, too!

  4. This is quite stunning! Love it! I never seem to use wreaths for some reason, but love the look. I like the idea of using any other fabric, like maybe a checked fabric in black and white, and then a sign of some sort. Of course, I have TONS of all sorts of fabrics I could use!
