$4.99 Thrifted Table Makeover

Last week after work I stopped at Goodwill for a browse and saw a hand painted side table for $4.99. I've been thinking about adding a side table next to the sofa, though it hasn't been a big priority. However, when I saw the price tag, the size of the table (which is pretty much perfect for the spot I had in mind) and found the table to be sturdy, I put that find right into my shopping cart. Although I thought the hand painted flowers were rather charming, the colors really didn't work with those in my living room, so I knew I would do some kind of makeover on the table.

I've been working on a number of small projects the past couple of weeks, and I didn't want another major project with this table. My vision was to do some dry brushing over the entire table with chalk paint. I didn't want to eliminate the flowers, just tone them down and give the whole table a softer look. I used Rustoleum chiffon cream chalked paint, which is an off white.

This was a quick and easy fix to achieve the look I was going for. . .a softer, kinda shabby chic, kinda cottage side table.

I already had the paint, so basically my new table cost less than $5. By the way, did I mention that the day I stopped in was senior discount day? I actually got the table for $4.79.

You just can't beat that!

Thanks for all your visits and comments the past couple of weeks. I'm way behind on my replies and visits to your blogs, but I will correct that soon!

Hugs,

    1. Thanks, Kim. I'm pretty happy with the flowers now. Somebody went to a lot of trouble to paint those, so I'm glad I could "save" them a bit. Happy Mother's Day to you, too! Hugs.

  2. I see your remark there, working on several smaller projects, so it was lucky you were out and about to find this cute wood table and a such a price! It looks so pretty next to the sofa. I just enjoy seeing your projects, you stay so busy with work and this. Hope you are seeing signs of warmth. It has been the wettest April in history here. Farmers still are weeks behind planting. And oh yes, May is starting out as wet and cold. Soon they say it will be warmer. Lynn and Precious xx

    1. This past week has been pretty chilly, Lynn, though we got some rain which is sorely needed. Today we have a high of 72 and the 10-day forecast shows high temps in the 70's and 80's. Hope you get some warmer days soon. Thanks for the compliments on the table. I'm glad I found it. xo

  4. That is such a pretty makeover. And the price definitely can't be beat. At first when I read you painted over the flowers I was a bit disappointed, but after seeing the finished result...WOW! It's perfect. I wish I had that kind of eye for decorating. Unfortunately I can't see what not in front of my face.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. I love this table... love the design and the legs and the round top.. of course LOVED the pink and green roses! but what you did was such a great idea.. I need to check out that kind of paint. Didn't know Rusoleum had chalk paint! I'm so behind on paint things and products. And what a deal! It looks great where it is. We had two spring like days here and I got out in my yard and did some work.. now today is again windy, cloudy and cold and some rain.. which we DO need here also. Another week of rain is forecast, and possibly SNOW next Sunday or Monday night! Blessings to you! Marilyn

    1. Thank you, Marilyn. This was a fun and easy project. Rustoleum chalk paint is my go-to paint, Marilyn. I've been using it for years. It's easy to find, too. Ace, Home Depot, Wal-mart all carry it. Stay dry out there in Oregon. :) Hugs.
