Bedroom Mirror Makeover

One of the items in my Mega Thrift Store Haul last January was an oval mirror. While the mirror was sturdy, the finish was very worn and looked cheap. The oval shape and $5 price tag sold me, and I knew with a little paint I could transform it into my style.

I thought of several places where I might use the mirror, and finally settled on hanging it over the dresser in my bedroom.

First, I gave it a coat of charcoal chalk paint, and followed that up with two coats of linen white chalk paint. After a little distressing and waxing, it was ready to hang.

I found these two architectural style wall hangings, at a thrift store, that I hope to transform into something special for the bedroom.

Stay tuned!

Hugs,

  2. It looks lovely now that it's hanging on your wall. That was a good photo angle when you took a picture of the mirror and it picked up the lamp beside your bed. I'll be curious to see what you do with the 2 new plaques that you bought. You always amaze me with your creativity, hope you have a great Sunday.

  4. You are an absolute WHIZ with the paintbrush! The mirrow looks awesome and I love the distressed look of it. That is such a cute dresser.. I have so much dark furniture that I would love someone to come and paint it white for me. I just can't seem to get going on it and nowhere to do it, except dining room table or kitchen counter. Where do you do your painting? Those plaques are so neat and bet they will look pretty with your paint magic! Have a great Sunday... Marilyn

    1. Hi Marilyn! Thanks for your kind words. If I'm painting large items like furniture, I throw a drop cloth down and paint it right where I intend to
use it, or if that's not possible, anywhere in the house that there's room for it. Usually in my third bedroom, which will eventually be a guest room. As for smaller items like the mirror, I use the table in my craft room, or sometimes I use my dining table if it's a small project that won't take more than a few hours to complete. I've never found a problem with fumes using chalk paint, however if that is a concern there are paints that address that issue. You have a garage, don't you? That's a space you could use, too, if the temperature is right. You can always warm up the area with a space heater. I will say, Marilyn, that doing projects is not always convenient, and you kind of have to get used to living with a mess for a few days to achieve what you want. I'm by nature a neat person. I hate having a mess around me. I've had to get over that. Also, I want to throw in that when I do small projects I often have several going at once. So, I paint a coat, go to the next item and paint a coat and so on. It takes some planning, but I can accomplish a lot on my day off if I've organized it right. This is a lot of information. I hope its helpful. Hugs.
