Living Large In Small Spaces - Bahama Surf Shack

An ocean front artist's studio and home in the Bahamas is our featured small space this week.

Dan

Welcome to the seventy-seventh post in the series
"Living Large in Small Spaces".

This 1,000 sq ft home is very low key. As the architect says, "It's all about the views."

Dan

Sliding shutters open to the ocean breezes or close for sun control.

Dan

Pickled tongue and groove wood lines the interior. Vintage rattan furniture suits the surf scene.

Dan

The dine-in kitchen is open to the living room.

Dan

A casual, relaxed atmosphere. We might even say it's low maintenance.

Dan

The master bedroom is anything but cramped. Shutter doors open to the living space and close for privacy.

Above are sleeping lofts accessed by a pull-down ladder.

The view from the deck is spectacular.

This view from the air shows the home's location on the 60 foot cliff.

Less than a mile away is the surfer's beach.

Could this be your dream home?

  1. That's a view you would never tire of . . . can you imagion sleeping there with the tropical breezes blowing in through those windows. As long as it wasn't storm weather I can see this being beyond relaxing . . . very zen :)

  6. The views really ARE amazing. I'd be "scared to death" to access those loft bedrooms. I'm too unsteady & would fear getting dizzy and falling :)
The downstairs is absolutely dreamy - especially the bedroom!

  7. Oh Nancy surfs up and I wish I knew how to hang 5!!! The view, OMGosh the view, the color's, the place...
I love the Bahamas and have gone to Freeport many times, but it was always a stay in a hotel sipping coconut rum by the pool and snorkeling in the beautiful pristine ocean. The deck and view is absolutely sublime.

  8. BTW hanging 5 is supposed to be simpler than hanging 10 but either way it would be a total wash out for me. Just looked at all the photos again and I'm totally in love.

  10. Just call me Bahama Mama. I could certainly live there except for the second story. I need something to keep me from walking off the edge. LOL. And I love the vintage ratan. Neat place.

  11. What a neat place! Don't think I'd be comfortable on that cliff though. :-)

    Beautiful views and water color.

  12. ANYWHERE by the water, ocean or grand lake, is OK with me. I love the bifold doors that open out into the breeze and blue. WOW Nancy, this could easily be a dream cottage for me!

Enjoying spring my friend? HAPPY SUNDAY!

  13. Wow this is unique! I love all the shutter doors. I was concerned about locking them but there is no way anyone is around....so secluded!

  14. My bag is packed and I am ready to go. This is my number one favorite cottage. I bet the breezes are just fabulous from the bluff. Apparently they do not have a problem with bugs since there are no screens. You scored on this one Nancy. Debbie

  15. Very beautiful and well decorated but the height would not be so good for me. The upstairs looks like it would be dangerous for children for they could fall down. However it is very pretty.

  16. This is perfect! A seaview is the only thing I miss at my Cottage!

  17. Honestly the view had me at hello, can't imagine seeing that gorgeous view every single day. Even though I don't like the style and floor plan is very nice and style can be changed.

  19. This one would not be my dream ... but I love that starfish pine tree!

  20. Yes, it could be my dream home. The view alone is beyond beautiful. A favorite for sure Nancy.

  21. A beautiful home Nancy, but I'm not sure I could handle the heights, lol! And the loft kind of terrified me, I don't think I would sleep well knowing I could roll off the bed and down into the kitchen, lol! But... the wooden shutter doors/windows I loved. A beautiful way to create an airy space! A unique spot for sure, don't think it's "me", but I wouldn't say no to a vacation there, just as long as I didn't have to sleep in the loft, lol!
