Too Soon Snow

The garden shed is silent.

Miss Pine is wearing white.

Quilt blocks are lining up in rows.

The fire is burning bright.

My front porch gourds are sad, it's true.

"Too early," I hear them say.

Our calendar agrees with them

"Please wait a few more days."

Although it's technically still fall, here at A Joyful Cottage winter has arrived. News tells us it's that way around most of the country.

For me the time to quilt and enjoy other activities inside our cozy cottage has arrived.

Coffee or tea anyone?

Wishing all of you a safe, warm and happy Thanksgiving.

  2. Tea for me, thanks. Coffee is usually too bitter for me. I only drank coffee when I was working because it was already prepared.

Big storm headed this way, according to the weatherman, and predictions are for over a foot of the white stuff. I hope he is wrong.

  3. It's a gorgeous 75 degrees out right now here in AZ. Will be hovering around the upper 60's on Thanksgiving day. These are the months we live for here, the ones we can get outside and play while it is cool and bearable! Wishing you a warm and Happy Thanksgiving! Cindy xoxo

  5. Hi Nancy, It snowed too soon for me too. But thankfully ours is melting quickly. It should be gone by thanksgiving. It just came , a huge amount...for the first snow. That was the shocker, I think. Wishing you a beautiful thanksgiving day filled with love, xoxo,Susie

  6. What a cozy little haven you now have, Nancy. I am never really ready for snow, but with a book and coffee in hand and a warm blanket to wrap up in, it can be restorative. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

    1. Yes, restorative. That's a great word to express what snow days can be if we're willing to just relax and take the good from them. Thanks, Julie.

  8. Here in the PNW we don't see snow too often, even in the actual winter... wouldn't mind a bit as long as it doesn't interrupt any holiday plans as I do like the peace it seems to bring!

  10. We just had our first "blizzard" and it was enough to create a "snow day" at home. Sleeping in, lazy morning, tree decorating and soup for dinner. Watching the snow fall and thankful for a warm and cozy home.

  11. Enjoy your lazy days. In South Africa we have had terrible heat and very little rain. Indeed a bid upside down.
    The quilt is beautiful

  14. Hi Nancy,
We got hit with that snow last week end. Over 14 inches. Most of it is going away with the weather warming up and rain coming in. It was a pretty first snow. Just too much all at once! Happy Thanksgiving.

  16. I agree Nancy, winter is here much too soon. We received 7 inches last weekend and it looks like the cold temps are here to stay. Stay warm, my friend and Happy Thanksgiving to you and Dennis.

  17. Cooler temps have finally reached s.e. FL.It's almost 6 a.m. and is 73, but feels like it is 69. Tonight it is supposed to be cooler and the high tomorrow 79, with showers off and on today and tomorrow. I am thankful for this respite from the long hot summer weather.

Your cottage looks so comforting, warm and cozy. I love Miss Pine with winter moving in. Your quilt is going to be oh so lovely.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving ~ Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady

  18. Good morning dearest Nancy! OHHHHHH A cottage is the perfect place to experience the first snow fall. To sit and read, write, sew, create anything, that is what I LOVE to do when the first snow hits. Though we've had strangely mild and warm weather for November in Minnesota, a brief snow storm is due tonight. I'm going out this morning to get my turkey and trimmings so I'm ready to pop everything in the oven early tomorrow. Wishing you a cozy and happy holiday in your bright little cottage!

  19. Yes, it is that time! I always think of all the projects I promised myself I'd do when the weather got colder! There are so many. Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! I did not know you were a quilter. So much love and patience and time goes into each one I am sure.

  20. Oh no! I am not ready for the snow either. It's so pretty, but I am not prepared for everything that comes along with it! Happy Thanksgiving my friend. Enjoy your comfy new abode during this chilly season. Seems like the perfect place to enjoy a cup of something warm. Wish we lived closer, I would certainly join you!! xxoo

  24. Sounds lovely, Nancy. We had our first snow last month, though it didn't stick around and then it got warmer for a bit. This last snow didn't last, but somehow I didn't mind. Maybe I'm ready for the quiet of winter (gets us closer to spring).

Hope you had a peaceful Thanksgiving in your sweet, joyful cottage.
