Random 5 Friday

"If you so choose, each day can be filled with even more joy than the one before.
If you so choose, even the most seemingly random events
can work in your favor." -- Ralph Marston

Greetings Cottage Friends.

We've been traveling this week, so blogging has had to wait.  I missed you, and I'm glad to be back home in time for Nancy's Random 5 Friday.

This week I'm sharing five random photos from our trip to the Oregon Coast.  We're still looking for property, so we decided to combine a real estate search with an early celebration of our fourth wedding anniversary, which is on Valentine's Day.

When we left northeast Oregon on Saturday the temperature was 26 degrees, with a forecast of snow and single digit temps.

#1 - Beach Sunset
Dennis took this photo from our dinner table at Georgie's restaurant in Newport on Sunday night.

#2 - Beach Morning.
It was in the 40's when we headed south on Monday.

#3 - Heceta Head Lighthouse.
This is one of my favorite spots to photograph. (I last photographed it in July 2013). Located between Yachats and Florence, the lighthouse was built in 1894, is 56' tall and shines a beam visible for 21 miles.  It's said to be the strongest light on the Oregon Coast.

#4 - Gorse
I believe the bushes with yellow blooms are Gorse, introduced from Ireland to Oregon in the 1800's.  Although pretty, it is invasive.  All I know is that in the middle of winter it was wonderful to see anything green and blooming.

#5 - Crocus
We stopped in Reedsport for lunch.  Dennis stepped outside to take a call, and spotted Crocus in bloom. Of course, he had to snap a photo.

We're still undecided on where to settle.  However, coming home to snow and -2 degrees does make the coast more tempting.

How's the weather where you live?

  1. Hi, Nancy! Welcome back! :) I love the Marston quote you used in your opening.

The photos are wonderful. I lived in the Pacific Northwest way back in the day, and enjoyed every second of it. The only thing that brought me back was being in love with a Texas boy (worth it).

Speaking of love, happy almost anniversary! Hope you enjoy your weekend in spite of the unbelievable temps.

    1. Hi Joy! How nice to hear from you. It's been snowing here since late yesterday and I'm ready to head back to the coast right now. :) Moving to Texas for a good man was the right move. I relocated to the west for the same reason. Hope you're having a great Saturday. Hugs.

  4. The pictures are just beautiful. When Hubby retires in a few years we will be doing the same. Traveling to see where we want to live.

    1. I hope you enjoy the search when the time comes, Betty. The hard part for us is finding a place we can afford. ;)

    1. The lighthouse is part of the park system, Beth, and I believe it can be toured. We just haven't taken the time to do so.

  9. We live in Connecticut and the weather has been horrible. We both retired and I so want to move somewhere warm - but not hot.hot.hot. I just can't make my husband go.

    1. Sometimes it's hard to pull up stakes and relocate completely. Hopefully you'll come to an agreement so it works for both of you. Good luck!

  10. Isn't it nice to see flowers and greenery when you are traveling in the winter?! I just got back from AZ. Looks like you had a wonderful trip. Cold here too (Michigan), up at our cottage they have received 91 inches of snow so far this year, all I can say is yikes! Thanks for following, your new follower, Laura

    1. 91"? Oh my, Laura. We haven't gotten anything like that. We have about 7" right now, and that's a record for the winter. We were out in it this morning and my husband commented on how pretty it is. I didn't say anything. ;)

  11. I am new to your blog, but already feel at home! I live close to the coast, but in California, where the rain has finally started! I, too, am a Nancy, and I love your picture when you were little that sits at the bottom of the post with you at the typewriter! I had the same hairdo, thanks to those little pink rubber curlers that would dangle off our heads and sort of bounce around! Happy Anniversary, and enjoy your search!

    1. Welcome, Nancy, and thanks for your kind words. I can't take credit for the photo of the little girl. That's actually a link to Nancy's (another Nancy) blog A Rural Journal, and the photo belongs to her. It is cute, though, isn't it?

  12. Looks like you had a lovely time at the coast. I can't believe the snow we are getting here in Portland - so unusual!

    1. Hi, Jill. We stayed in Hood River Wednesday night, and I was surprised by the cold temperature there. Of course, here in northeast Oregon it's even worse and we have over 7" of snow. We do need the moisture, though. At least that's what I keep telling myself. :)

  15. Such pretty pictures, Nancy! I'm a total sucker for the beach, but I really love the crocus flowers. We are totally buried under several inches of ice and snow, any sign of spring, anywhere in the US is lovely! :)

  16. Absolutely gorgeous photos, especially 1 & 2! I too have been traveling this past week, but alas was doing some driving and did not get much in the way of photos. It wasn't a pleasure trip. Thanks for your awesome comments on my blog.
