Random 5 Friday

Okay, who stole Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday? It cannot -- I repeat, cannot -- be Friday already. No way.

What's that you say?

It is?

Oh. . .Nancy at A Rural Journal - Random 5 Friday, says it is.

(sigh)

She's so pushy.

Okay, then. I guess I better quit blabbering and show you my 5 Randoms for the week.

#1 - Keepin' It Real.
Sooooo, I woke up this morning and pictured all the beautiful home and garden blogs I read and my twisted mind thought, "I bet there's not a blogger out there who doesn't have to do a Donna Reed number on her house before she photographs it for a blog post."

I mean, don't they at least need to tidy up a bit before they whip out their Nikon? Or Canon? Or whatever? Or, is it just me. Please, can I get a witness?

For the record, I am not intimidated. Here's what my writing area looks like most of the time. (This is unedited.) I walked into my workroom, turned on my computer and took the shot.)

Am I not brave in showing the world this photo?  Am I not courageous?

Don't you feel better about yourself now that you've seen the messy piles, plastic bottles, multiple exposed cords, and bits and pieces of paper? And how about those willy-nilly containers on the floor?

#2 - Faithfulness.

Some of you may know that after a 36 year marriage I was widowed (I remarried almost 4 years ago). There's a corner in my room that holds three gifts given to me during my widowhood; constant reminders of God's faithfulness: a cross with a prayer asking God's blessing upon my home, an Isabel Bloom sculpture called "Faith", and a photograph of me with three fantastic friends and women of faith (we used to meet for a weekly Bible Study in my Ohio home).

#3 - Snow White.
Dennis and I went on a discovery drive earlier this week to see what we could find to photograph. This shot of mine is a favorite.

#4 - Whimsy.

I think we all need more whimsy in our lives. Here's a photo of the inside cover of one of my vintage children's books "Dollie's Big Dream", by Eldridge H. Sabin. This should get us thinking whimsically. (Ignore the white vertical line; that's the non-whimsical worn binding.)

#5 - Create.

That's my 2014 word.

“Write it. Shoot it. Publish it. Crochet it, sauté it, whatever. MAKE.”  ― Joss Whedon

You know what? I really like sharing little random bits of my life with you. It's fun when you share, too.

Let's do it again next Friday.

    1. It's not snow, Beth, but it is frost. It wasn't too cold that morning. 25 or 30 degrees, I think. That's warm compared to where we last lived.

  6. I always love your Random 5, Nancy! Great picture of your desk ~ mine looks the same way most of the time. It took me a while to figure out why there are so many close ups in blogland...then I realized that it is nearly impossible to make a craft, write a post, shoot and edit a photo, do laundry, feed a kid, etc. AND have a totally clean house! Tight shots are quickly becoming my best friends! ;)

  7. Dear friend, I am also quite amazed at how quickly the days passed ... quite realized what had to be done, but they were still missing a few things, I intend to fit the following week. And another alternative? Lol ...
Love also share my daily life and what I like to find are bloggers who share their everyday too.
Oh, and of course, in order to try to keep my desk, but I confess that sometimes I fumble and turns that mess! I also have extra help in the mess: my baby 2 years - my angel Gabriel! Lol ...
Bjs and you have a blessed week end!

    1. Karin, I would trade a clean desk for a messy desk any day, if it meant an adorable baby was involved. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

  9. Nancy, I enjoy your random Friday posts. Always fun to learn a little more about you! I have two places that I junk up as fast I clean them. They are my drop off places. One is the desk in my kitchen and the other is my laundry room. It's just inside the garage door and things that I'm not sure what to do with yet seem to end up there. Yup, we're all human!

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Jeanette Ann. Sometimes maybe I'm too real. I usually edit my Random 5 posts 2 or 3 times to make sure I'm not sharing things people would consider "too much information." LOL

  14. Hi Nancy, It's Lynn from Cottage and Creek. Thanks so much for your lovely and encouraging note. Sounds like we have much in common. I enjoyed reading your blog and I'm a new follower on google and BlogLovin'. I've been away from blogging for quite a few months and I'm not sure if I'm ready to jump back in, but I love writing and blogging sure is a nice outlet for that. And I love thrifting and creating so I intend to do lots of that in this new year. I'm happy to hear you found yourself a good man. I know they're out there but God hasn't brought one my way yet :) I look forward to following along on your adventure. Isn't heaven going to be grand? We'll get to meet all our lovely blog friends in person. I can't wait ... Thanks again for your message and Happy New Year to you.

    1. This made me smile, Sarah. My husband's "desk" in his art studio -- which is part of our living room in this crazy apartment we're renting -- is pretty messy right now. I couldn't bring myself to photograph that. (sigh) We need a house so badly. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you're enjoying the weekend.

  16. Great post, Nancy. I've seen your work area at my house. :) I lost the days over the holidays ... would have missed Friday if I hadn't had an appointment for a hair cut and got a reminder call. I don't I was the only one who misplaced days. Love the snow white image. Happy New Year!

    1. You're so nice. Thank you. I don't know if the days go by so quickly because I cram so much into them, or if it's simply a sign of aging. (When I was 6 years old it seemed like forever between birthdays. . .now, they come too soon.) Hope 2014 is a great year for you.

  17. I used to join in 'Reality Shot Thursdays' over at Claudia's - I wish it was still going, you'd enjoy the fun of showing pics before clearing/leaning up!!!

Right now, like everyone who put up Christmas, I'm taking down this weekend before the really cold weather hits us here in the southeast this coming week. What day is it - don't know without a bit of thought - they all seem to be a blur at this time of year so I have to keep running to the calendar for assistance!

Happy, healthy, wonderful New Year Nancy - see you around in blogland. BTW - love the pic from your drive.

    1. Oh, Mary, I didn't decorate for Christmas, except to put up a little table top tree and a table runner. I hope next Christmas we'll be settled in a home where I'll be motivated to do more. This apartment feels so temporary, and it is just that until we find our own place. I'm trying to stay positive. Thanks for visiting and sharing. Best wishes for a great New Year.

  20. Hi Nancy-My desk looks fine just don't look at my dining area table, off the living room! That's where my work takes place. I really enjoyed reading your list. What struck me was when we actually stop and think about things we realize wow we are continually evolving! It might be a good thing that your living in this apartment. I would think it would be a good reminder what you really want in your next home. Happy 2014

    1. A big resounding YES, Kathleen. I am getting a very good picture of what I'd like in our next home. My dear husband is the designated cottage hunter. He spends hours searching the real estate listings online and phoning realtors in various locations around Oregon in search of
"the one." Happy 2014 to you, too.
