Creating Faux Vintage Architectural Salvage Wall Decor

 

Hello Cottage Friends,

When I moved into my mobile home last year, I dressed my bed with a quilt and shams that I had purchased with a gift card several years ago. I never really liked that bedding. I thought it was okay when I first bought it, and it was, basically, free --  but by the time I put it on my bed here it just felt. . .wrong. The colors and the style just aren't me.

My Heart Pillow and Women's Craft Day

I hope you had a very nice weekend. 

Today I want to share my latest project with you.  

A heart pillow.

Once a month the women in our little church get together for a craft day.  We meet at 9:00 AM at the church with our project in hand.  Each woman works on whatever she wants.  Some of us bring our sewing machines and work on quilts or other sewing projects, some work on paper crafts, or needlework.  One young woman works on creative writing.  Anything and everything goes.  We stop at noon for lunch (each woman brings something to share), we have a short devotional, and then we get back to our crafts and wind things up around 2:00.  It's such a great way to bond with other women.  We encourage, joke around and just have a great time. 

Last month I started a heart pillow, thinking I'd have it completed by Valentine's Day.  It was such a simple craft, I never imagined I'd still be working on it Saturday.  But, I had a really busy month and well, you know how it goes.

Here's the pillow back.

This was a fun and frugal project, using materials I already had on hand.

Fabric from my  big $2 bag of Habitat Restore material.  (I barely made a dent in my stash.)

The trim was crochet lace removed from a 25 cent placemat (washed first, of course), and pressed flat.

The buttons were the most expensive part of the pillow.  I found them at one of my favorite antique stores.  $4 is way more than I would normally pay for 5 buttons (yes, I know there are 6 staples, but one button was missing from the card), however I love the mother of pearl and the size of the buttons, so I splurged.

And I liked that sassy gal on the button card.  Plus, how can one resist buttons that are  "The Talk of the Town."

I figure I can repurpose that vintage card in a paper project one day.

Since I already had polyfil to stuff the pillow, I didn't spend any money there either.

So there you have it.  Fun, inexpensive, pretty and useful.  My kind of project.
