A Peek at Our Cottage Kitchen

Welcome Cottage Friends,

Thanks for stopping by. I love your visits.

Please don't pay any attention to the unpainted porch railing. I'll get to that before winter, I'm sure. What I really want you to see today is our kitchen. We still have a few things to complete, such as the backsplash and something special for the range and the sink cabinet, but I figure I've kept you waiting to see the kitchen long enough. So although this isn't a full reveal -- that will come once this project is 100% finished -- these photos capture the kitchen's mood.

As you enter from the front porch, this is what you see.

The missing dining chairs are a work in progress.

And here's a look at the space beyond the fridge.

I could not be happier with the way the kitchen turned out. It's everything I envisioned, everything I wanted and more. Cooking is a joy. Clean up is a breeze. Everything has its place and it all works together beautifully.

I do want to show you several close ups that make me giddy.

The garden window.

The kitchen faucet.

The range hood.

And the farm sink. I ordered an unfinished, distressed cabinet and antiqued it myself to get the look I was after.

Now I ask you -- is it wrong to love a kitchen this much?

  2. It's just what I imagined you would have - perfect! I can't begin to imagine how wonderful it is to finally be able to use the kitchen you dreamed of so long. The garden window is fantastic and I love the way you've put it all together. Is that a vintage stove I see? Everything is so cozy and I'm sure you must smile when you see it coming together.

  3. Nancy,
I think loving your kitchen is just exactly what you should feel. I know with our recent updates I feel the same. Oh Nancy your kitchen is so cottage chic, I adore it. I love your 2 colors in the cabinets, adds interest and contrast - I love dramatic color choices in light with dark. I LOVE the cream cabinets, I LOVE your faucet, LOVE your range hood ... Well Nancy I love it all. Looking forward to seeing your backsplash reveal.

  4. Oh, it is charming and adorable! We have the same IKEA double farmhouse sink, and it is has been a real work horse for us. We love it. (We don't have a dishwasher either. I don't think I see one in your pics.) Google "Sally's (pseudonym)Sweet Galley Kitchen" sometime and you can see mine. It's still there online after entering in Apt. Therapy's kitchen contest. I love the cabinet that you have placed your sink in. It must be wonderful to cook in your new space, Nancy!

  6. Oh, I love it. I'm designing an ADU for my parents and your style is perfect for it. I just searched for your floor plan and I could only find one that showed a galley rather than a one-wall kitchen. Can you link to your final plan?

  9. Hi Nancy,

Your beautiful new kitchen is every cottage - loving girl's dream, and one that could easily grace the cover of every cottage style magazine, or even better, the canvas of an inspired artist! Having said that, I don't doubt that Dennis will take brush to canvas and record your unique and lovely kitchen in all its creative charm!

You must be thrilled!! It's simply stunning!

  12. I absolutely love the window ledge! I wish newer houses had deeper window ledges. When I had my kitchen redone last year I asked for the deepest ledge they could make without it hitting my kitchen faucet & I love it.

I really like the fridge & cabinets around it as well. Such an adorable kitchen.

  26. NANCY!!!!!!!!!!!

This is perfect. For a small space, you gave it a LOT of character, and the details of the hood, the SINK with the little curtain, everything (THAT WINDOW) - many of us would want this in our kitchens! Your smaller scale makes it even more charming and desirable. Live in it to the fullest and enjoy this sweet dream. LOVE IT! Anita

    2. I've been looking at this fridge on Home Depots site. Does it seem big enough for you??
I really liked he small size as our kitchen is very small., and I like it doesn't have handles sticking out. What about the bottom freezer?

    3. Christina, there are only two adults here and so far the fridge is big enough to meet our needs. We do a lot of cooking and I have a lot of fresh veggies in the vegetable bin. It's loaded. The shelves on the fridge door won't accommodate gallon size containers, so keep that in mind if you're used to buying gallons of milk, etc. We don't drink milk and our cream is in quart size cartons which fit fine. I chose this fridge specifically for the bottom freezer. I hate stooping down to rifle through the fridge. The freezer size is more than adequate for our needs. If we need more space we'll purchase a small chest freezer and keep it in the workshop for overflow. There's been a lot of interest from readers about the fridge. I'll try to do a blog post this week on the fridge and show pics of the inside. Check back. :)

  32. No, it is not wrong! You've earned it and waited for it and I bet there will be few frozen dinners coming out of that kitchen.

Nancy, all that time of visiting cottages across the world for your blog must have gone into details for this one. I would say which part I like best but I love it all, although the sink and cabinet it sits in wins my heart.
