Monday Morning Encouagement -- Jesus Christ Our Intercessor

And Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.' And they cast lots to divide His garments." Luke 23:34

Of today's scripture Charles Spurgeon comments:

"Our Lord was at that moment enduring the first pains of crucifixion; the executioners had just then driven the nails through His hands and feet. He must have been, moreover, greatly depressed, and brought into a condition of extreme weakness by the agony of the night in Gethsemane, and by the scourgings and cruel mockings which He had endured all through the morning, from Caiaphas, Pilate, Herod, and the Prætorian guards. Yet neither the weakness of the past, nor the pain of the present, could prevent Him from continuing in prayer."

We must keep in mind that Jesus Christ at that moment was fully God and fully man. As man He felt all the cruelty of the cross. As God He had the power to call legions of angels to rescue Him from the horror, and yet He did not do so. Imagine the scene for a moment, and the first words spoken by our blessed Savior from the cross, "Father forgive them." If ever we doubt Jesus' love for sinners, this one scripture should expel such uncertainty. Honestly, I can't fully wrap my mind around this profound, amazing love. Even in the Lord's darkest hour of excruciating pain He was interceding for His enemies, fulfilling His own instructions in the sermon on the mount, "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," (Matthew 5:44)

On Sunday we will celebrate the victorious resurrection of our Savior. He suffered, died and was buried. But the grave could not hold Him! Jesus rose again and now sits at the right hand of the Father, where He continues to intercede for us, as is written in Romans 8:34. His prayers are unending, as is His love.

Jesus Christ our Lord and intercessor is so very worthy of our praise!

Today's music video Worthy Is The Lamb performed by Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir has been playing in my mind for days. It's a song that deserves a full choir, in my opinion. So powerful! I hope you enjoy it, as much as I do.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
