"So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts." 2 Peter 1:19
Peter had walked side by side with Christ for three years. He had been on the mount with Him and witnessed the transfiguration. He had seen the miracles Jesus performed and ate breakfast with Him after His resurrection. Yet with all this evidence of the truth, Peter points to scripture -- the "prophetic word" -- as the more sure evidence. All the prophecies -- and there are over 300 of them - are fulfilled in Christ.
God's word illumines the darkness of minds and opens them up to receive the truth of who Jesus is: the Son of God, Savior, Master and Lord. The final darkness of the world's sin will be dispelled when Christ the Morning Star returns.
"The Word of God is more certain than an apostolic witness of the account of Mount of Transfiguration. Our faith primarily rests in what God says, not what we experience." (Dr. Grant C. Richison)
Now more than ever before, don't we need the promise and assurance of scripture to encourage us, teach us and prepare us for this day, not to mention for the days ahead?
Today's music video Word of God Speak by MercyMe is a song of a surrender to God and allowing Him to speak to us through His word.
I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
The Word of God has never lost its relevancy. It is enduring, unchanging and keeps our hearts pointed to Jesus. When everything around us is changing, we have the assurance that God and His Word remain the same. You're so right, it's exactly what we need every day!
ReplyDeleteThe prophecies are being fulfilled so quickly now too. I'm anxiously awaiting what is next to be fulfilled according to scripture. The Rapture. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it happened in our lifetime? Thank. you for your encouraging words today.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
You're a bright light on my Mondays Nancy! Thank you for your scripture reminders...usually exactly what I need! Hugs to you. Have a good week! xoxo Marilyn
ReplyDeleteI sense a true urgency in this post and I think it's an urgency that we should all be feeling. Are we ready? Are we anxiously awaiting His return? I know my answers is yes and I hope that for everyone that knows Him and loves Him their answer is also Yes. We are not promised tomorrow and we are not promised an hour from now. We need to be ready whether we go in death or whether we go in the glorious rapture. If you are a child of God, then this world is not your home.
ReplyDeleteI have started getting up in the morning and asking God to remind me that I am His and that I can put every minute of my day in His hands. I want to be the woman that eats fear for breakfast, that stands tall even when the world is decaying around me. Leaning into Him, I might be weak but He is strong and when I am found in Him I have nothing to fear. I have a Good, Good Father!!!

ReplyDeleteIn my Bible study this fall, I have been reminded to how all the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus being Messiah and Savior were fulfilled. As you wrote, over 300!
