Monday Morning Encouragement -- The Stone of Israel

But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!”

Luke 19:40

As Jesus made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the colt, a crowd of His followers began to shout praises to Him: “BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

There were Pharisees in the crowd who told Jesus to rebuke His disciples and tell them to stop their praises, but Jesus replied that if they were to stop, the stones would cry out. Stones could tell much of Jesus their Creator.

They could tell of His power to make something out of nothing.

The stones in Jerusalem could tell of the miracles He did there.

The stones in Gethsemane could tell of His agony at facing His impending death on the cross.

The stones at Calvary could tell of His crucifixion and the blood that flowed down from His wounds for the sins of the world.

And the stones at His tomb could tell of His glorious resurrection.

"Stones might well cry out, but we will not let them: we will hush their noise with ours; we will break forth into sacred song, and bless the majesty of the Most High, all our days glorifying him who is called by Jacob the Shepherd and Stone of Israel." (Spurgeon)

Today's music video Humble King  sung by Sounds Like Reign is a tender, lovely song of praise to our Lord and Savior. When Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey, He was the Humble King. When He returns to earth, He will be the Conquering King. I hope during this Holy Week you will draw closer to Him.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

And thank you for the wonderful devotional - so thankful that He came to show us how to live humbly and as servants of the most High, but He is soon to return and that is when we will enter into our true destiny, where we will be triumphant with Jesus as He reigns as the Conquering King! 8. What an intriguing way of looking at the verse about the stones crying out. I never thought of it that way. This expands the meaning of the verse so much! Thank you.

  10. Dear friend, I ventured by today to escape the chaos of everyday living and this catching-up was wonderful! Your words brought back a memory that made me smile. My dear dad was a preacher - a preacher who loved God and loved people. And he praised God often, unashamedly. He preached at a church far from home years ago and a little girl said to my mama, 'That pastor Jim doesn't give those rocks a chance!' Her mama questioned her thought, to which she replied, 'you know - those rocks that will praise if we don't!'
