Monday Morning Encouragement -- Carry the Message

"The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told." Luke 2:20

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, I've been earnestly thinking about the shepherds. Specifically, that God first chose them to receive the news of Jesus' birth. He didn't send the angelic messenger to kings or governors, nor even to the priests and rabbis. He didn't select the "rich and famous" to first hear the good news. He chose common shepherds.

And what was the shepherds' response? They hurried off to Bethlehem to witness for themselves what they had been told. They were excited. Granted, they probably had to first recover from the shock of the angel's visit and the  hosts of Heaven proclaiming glory to God, but then they rushed to see the Savior that had been promised.

After they visited the manger they spread the word of Jesus' birth. Those who had first received the message became the messengers. God entrusted the greatest message on earth to humble shepherds, and "all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them" (Luke 2:20).

God is still interested in spreading the good news, the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ. Imagine the joy He feels when a humble believer carries His precious message to a lost and hurting world.

In these final days of 2022, let's not forget the true and glorious message of Christmas:

"Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."

And like the shepherds of old, let's rejoice and share this awesome message. Praise God!

Today's music video When Love Was Born sung by Mark Schulz is so gentle and beautiful. I hope it will bless you, as it has me.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

  2. Since we've been pretty much stuck inside with the weather this Christmas, I've had plenty of time for movies about the Nativity, reading about it and just pondering. At church yesterday the children did an impromptu nativity, no practice and it was wonderful. As our pastor said, the first nativity had no practice either.
I tried to really think about each week of Advent as we readied ourselves for Jesus' birth. Thank you for this beautiful post and song.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  5. I am late commenting and catching up, but it was so wonderful to read this encouragement today. I love that God chose the humble shepherds, too, and how He never opted to do great things through the rich, famous, or religious. Such a valuable lesson and comfort to my heart today. May the Lord bless you for always being such a faithful encouragement to me, sweet friend.
