Thrifted Crate Flipped for Fall

Today I'm sharing a thrift flip with you. And honestly, I'm kind of excited about the way it turned out. It's something that can be displayed throughout the year, and right now it's styled for fall.

A while ago I bought a small crate for $2 at the thrift store. It apparently had been used as a wall shelf with little cup hooks attached (one was missing).

I had a different vision for this little crate, although I didn't mind the color and the distressing. However, the Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co. logo had to go. I didn't fit my vision at all.

I removed the hooks and gave the crate one coat of Benjamin Moore wythe blue, then distressed it with sandpaper.

Next, I applied one of my IOD Traditional Pots transfers and lightly sanded it to give it an aged appearance. Lastly, I gave the whole crate a coat of watered down Waverly antique wax.

This brought my vision for this little crate to life. I wanted it to look like an old crate, and, of course, giving it a little french country vibe didn't hurt.

Now with my made over Dollar Tree carvable pumpkin and a few pine cones, my Thrifted Crate Flipped for Fall is right at home in my kitchen.

Are you working on any fall decor right now?

Hugs,

  2. I'm thinking since you live high in the air with the mountains, if the crate would have said "Mountain Woman" you could have kept it that way, lol. This was a fun and easy switch up for you to do. Happy upcoming Halloween with the pumpkin decoration. Lynn and Precious xx

  6. That pumpkin is so cute! Is the stem a button or knob? I'm really partial to old French advertising so I love the label you picked. Altogether a definite hit. Can't wait to see how you style the crate for Christmas.

    1. You have a good eye, Anna. The stem is an old drawer knob I had in my stash. xo

  7. Very pretty. I love decorating with wood! I haven't started any Fall decorating, other than putting out a pretty fall candle, and I dug out my Fall tablecloth. I bought a wood tray last Christmas, and it would be a pretty fall centerpiece on my dining table or coffee table. I'm hoping to crochet some fall colored leaves to put in it. Marilyn
