Monday Morning Encouragement -- Messianic Prophecy Fulfilled

Have you ever researched how many Messianic prophecies in the Bible were fulfilled by Jesus Christ? Josh McDowell has listed over 300 Old Testament prophecies that were fulfilled with precision by Jesus (Josh McDowell, “Evidence That Demands a Verdict,” Vol. 1, pp. 144, 167).

In his book Science Speaks, Dr. Peter Stoner, professor emeritus of science at Westmont College, calculated the probability of one man fulfilling just eight of those prophecies:

1. The Messiah will be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2)

2. A messenger will prepare a way for the Messiah. (Malachi 3:1)

3. The Messiah will enter Jerusalem as a king, riding on a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)

4. The Messiah will be betrayed by a friend and suffer wounds in his hands. (Zechariah 13:6)

5. The Messiah will be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12)

6. The betrayal money will be used to purchase a potter's field. (Zechariah 11:13)

7. The Messiah will remain silent while he is afflicted. (Isaiah 53:7)

8. The Messiah will die by crucifixion; having his hands and feet pierced. (Psalm 22:16)

He surmised that the odds of one person accidentally fulfilling 8 of these detailed prophecies is 1 in 10 to the 17th power or 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000!

To illustrate the enormity of that number Dr. Stoner writes:

“…we take 10^17 silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They will cover the state two feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly. Blindfold a man and tell him that he must pick up one silver dollar and say that this is the right one. What chance would he have of getting the right one?”

According to Stoner, those are the same odds of eight of these prophecies being fulfilled in precise detail by Jesus.

This is just eight prophecies of over 300 that Jesus Christ fulfilled! If this doesn't give you goosebumps, please check your pulse.

Jesus Messiah, our amazing Savior!

What more appropriate music video to share this morning than Chris Tomlin's Jesus Messiah. Rejoice in the Lord Jesus!

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

    1. I agree, Kris. It's so exciting to read the scriptures in the Old Testament that foretold these events and to know from the New Testament that they have been fulfilled in Jesus. It is, indeed, amazing. xo

  2. I've heard this before. Isn't it amazing? I heard someone on the radio this week saying they don't have enough faith to be an atheist because there are so many things that prove the Bible is true. :)

  3. May God open up the eyes of those who doubt that Jesus is their only Savior and the only way for peace with God. Love this song. 'Name above all names!'
