French Country Wall Shelf and Copper Pans

When I planned my kitchen makeover, I had it in mind to hang a shelf with a French Country vibe. This week I installed a thrifted Longaberger wall shelf that I found in a thrift store in March.

The shelf was only $8, and has beautiful lines and pegs. I painted the shelf with Rustoleum chalk paint in the color charcoal, and lightly distressed it.

The fairly large wall, that now holds the shelf. is opposite the cabinets and this built-in desk.

I found the copper pans earlier this year on two different thrifting days for only a few dollars each. I snatched them up, knowing I would use them somewhere in the kitchen.

Everything sitting on the shelf was thrifted for just a few dollars each. I repainted the frame of the original oil painting. It was black with gold trim, and I painted only the front with Rustoleum chiffon. Then gave it a light coat of Waverly pewter, allowing some of the chiffon to show through. I think the frame now better compliments the painting.

I've had the textiles for sometime. I guess it's pretty obvious that I like stripes. :)

I'm satisfied with the shelf now. I feel the makeover gave it the French Country style I like.

Another budget-friendly project I can cross off my list.

What are you up to this week?

Hugs,

  4. Nancy, your lovely cottage look is so relaxing to see and enjoy from my vantage point. Fun thing about the Longaberger company. It was a main stay for decades just a few miles from my home. All traces gone except the huge basket shaped building sitting abandoned in Newark Ohio, if you have never seen photos of it, I am sure they are on good old google. I had an acquaintance who bought every thing they made. I am sure your lucky find for $8 probably cost over $80 when new. You are putting it to good use and I like the color you chose over the wood color. Lynn and Precious xx

    1. Hi Lynn, I appreciate your kind words. I lived in Columbus, OH fo4 14 years, and visited Longaberger several times. It was such a fun place to visit, and I seem to recall there was a good restaurant there, too! It's too bad the company didn't survive. Like you, I have friends who collected Longaberger. Their wares were a little too pricey for me. :) I do believe you about the original cost of the shelf I purchased. I did a quick google search and found a used one online for $78! xo

  7. I love your shelf. It looks so much better the color you painted it. Same with the picture frame. You have a great eye for what pulls everything together.

I also love those copper pans on the wall near the shelf. They are so bright and shiny! Are they hard to keep looking like that?

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Anna. As for keeping the copper looking bright and shiny, I really don't know yet. They are just as I found them in the thrift store. However, I have a friend who swears by using salt and vinegar on copper to keep it glowing. :) xo

  8. Nancy you have such a great eye. The way you painted that frame and the choice of charcoal for the shelf and the grey stripes are just striking, but then the pop of copper: magic!
