Quick, Easy and Budget-Friendly Wall Decor with a Vintage Vibe

Last week, during my staycation, I came across a new store that caught my eye. I was on my way to a consignment store to do some browsing when I drove by a rather large shop called Cozy Cottage & Co..  I did a quick turn around and pulled into the parking lot. In my book, any store with a name like that deserves a visit.

This shop is filled to the brim with everything I love: Cottage/Farmhouse and a touch of French Country. All displayed in charming vignettes. If I had been a regular customer, I would have asked if I could take photos to share with you. It being my first time in, I didn't feel comfortable doing that. Although most everything was beyond my budget, I did come home with a few trinkets. What I like to think of as "vacation souvenirs." As well as lots of inspiration.

If you know me at all, you know I love birds, and I always look for them when thrifting, or when I'm in a retail shop like Cozy Cottage. Honestly, I don't think I've ever found a bird at a thrift store. I think all the ones I have were found at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. Anyway, I did  find the shabby chic bird, along with a bee kitchen towel, and three inspirational cards (tags? Not sure what to call these.)

I've already used one of the tags to make wall decor for my kitchen. I had a $2 thrifted gold frame that I painted white a while back, and I thought it would work well with the "Cultivate the Habit of Being Grateful" quote. I lightly distressed the frame, and covered the cardboard backing with black ticking fabric leftover from the sink skirt I made. Then I adhered the tag, replaced the glass, and hung it on the wall. This was a quick and easy project that brought a fresh, vintage touch to my kitchen. And the best part is that it was easy on the wallet. I think the tags were $3.95 each. The ticking was from my stash. So altogether I think this wall decor cost about $6.

I apologize for the poor quality of the photo. It's very bright in my kitchen today, which created glare that gives a bit of distortion to the ticking.

By the way, it's a toasty 95 degrees outside. Yikes!

Hope it's nice weather where you are.

Hugs,

  2. That looks like a fun store to browse around in. I wish I had your imagination and skill in making beautiful objects, like you did in this post. I would have never in a million years thought of making that beautiful piece of art. I wish I did have that talent. All of your finds are great. I enjoy finding little birds too, but especially sheep and llamas. Wishing you a wonderful Lord's day tomorrow.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

    1. Betsy, the shop was so packed with beautiful things that I felt a bit overwhelmed. Just so much to take in. Thanks for your sweet comments. If I have any talent, I have the Lord to thank, along with all the talented Youtubers that inspire me with their creations. As always, thanks for stopping by. Hugs.

  3. Beautiful, Nancy! I love what you made with your fun finds. The name of the store definitely would've lured me inside as well, but like you, I probably would've left with a lot of inspiration rather than goods. Stay cool!! Hugs to you!

  4. Nancy, your 95 degrees is to be here Tues. and I am not looking forward to it. But it has been cold and wet here for about 5 days. That's terrific you found a new-new shop to go into and find fun decorating items and ideas. I was recently in a nursery plant shop that has a 2 story barn that is a home gift store. I posted a few pictures just because of the weather and time of year. It is fun to go into stores that have these new items and are well organized showing them off. It will be a great place for you to visit again one day. Lynn and Precious XX

  5. Very creative and charming. I love the lamb. It's dreadful weather here in the central valley of CA, 102 yesterday, 104 on Friday. It's going to be a long, hot summer!

  7. Oh wow... any store with the word "cottage" in it, draws me in! Your little finds are great. I have alot of those and never thought of framing them mounted on some fabric (or ticking which I love!). I'll be on the lookout for those smallish vintage frames. I love little tags with quotes and pictures. And I love birds too. Every time I see something with birds on it, or an actual bird.. I want it! I'm NOT ready for 95 degree weather! We've had the highest here yet of 86 and that was enough for me. Now today.. is windy, rainy and stormy and a cool 50 degrees. Lovin' in! Marilyn

    1. There's something very special about birds, Marilyn. One of my favorite things to do is sit on my porch and listen to them sing. Fortunately, there are a lot of trees around me, thus a lot of birds!
