French Ephemera Decoupage

I'm on a mission to finish my bedroom decor. Last week I shared my mirror makeover. This week I want you to see my budget-friendly French ephemera decoupage.

My window wall needed something. Combining two of the things I love: decoupage and French ephemera, I created a unique piece. The frame was a $2 thrift store find, and originally had a dark brown stain. I gave it two coats of linen white chalk paint and distressed it.

The Graphics Fairy was the source for the French ephemera. I love her website!

This was a fun, quick and very inexpensive solution for a bare wall.

Have you ever tried decoupage?

Hugs,

  1. I have not done decoupage for years, that was back when you got real paper magazines with lovely photos to use. I will have to look into the Graphics Fairy and see if I can get some ideas for a winter project. You inspire thoughts of making my own art work somehow or other, lol. Now to just do it! 5. I found two oval frames at the thrift store for a ridiculously cheap price and I grabbed them. I don't know what I'm going to put inside but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be using the chalk paint like you do. Can't wait to see them spruced up.

    1. Barbara, I'm excited that you're going to chalk paint your frames. It's really such an easy and inexpensive way to upcycle thrift store frames. Have a great day! xx

  6. I do decoupage now and then, usually on a canvas to make a wall hanging and paint it and stamp on it, put pieces of paper here and there and then mod podge over it. i love the look, just don't do it very often. Your ephemera piece looks great in that frame! Love it! I LOVE Graphics Fairy too... they were probably the first place I knew I could get free vintage images, way back in 2012 or so.. she was just starting out I think and had maybe 500 free images. I was THRILLED to pieces. Now she has the premium membership but I don't belong, but there are still tons of free images, and one time, I spent hours downloading many many of her free images and still use them! Have a great Sunday... Marilyn

    1. Marilyn, I can imagine the wall hangings you're describing. Would that be what is called "mixed media"? That's something I'd like to learn more about, as I've seen some really fabulous pieces. It's such a creative endeavor. Have a great week! xx

  7. Nancy, yes that's mixed media. I never knew quite what mixed media was, but I guess you could say that's what I've done! It's fun and very creative. Sometimes though, when I see a beautifiul piece of paper or collaged paper, I just want to frame it and leave it at that and not do anything else to it. Etsy has so many GORGEOUS papers now and collages already done.. and I keep forgetting about all the wonderful pieces that Graphics Fairy has too. Marilyn
