Monday Morning Encouragement - Home

Do you ever feel like a stranger here on earth; as if you don't belong here? For believers in Christ, their citizenship is in Heaven. We're merely traveling through this world, it's not our final destination.

It doesn't take much for me to yearn for my heavenly home. Being in the seventh decade of my life, I have seen unbelievable changes in our country and in our culture. Changes to which I just can't relate, and I truly feel like a stranger here. Just listening to the news gives me a sense of alienation, and I long to go home to the Lord, where I belong.

Some day I will go home -- whether through death or Christ's return -- but at least for this moment I'm here on earth, and I have to believe my Father has a very clear reason for leaving me here. I can't say I always know what my purpose is, but I trust Him to guide me according to His will, and to accomplish what He has in mind.

Knowing this, living in the light of the truth of God's word, gives me peace and I can face the trials of life here with assurance that God loves me, has a plan for me, and that one day He'll call me home. I rejoice in that thought!

Chris Tomlin has written a song called Home, which I often play for encouragement. I'm sharing his video with you today with hopes that it will encourage you, as well.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

  1. "...I have to believe my Father has a very clear reason for leaving me here."

Thanks. I needed that. I am a stranger here too. My heart hurts.

    1. Right there with you, my friend. So, this is why we "keep the faith" and continue serving the Lord. Until the day when He calls us home with those wonderful words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Praying for you today. xx

  2. Sandi, God knows your heart is hurting. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3 I'm praying for you today. xx

  3. I believe you are doing "your purpose." I love reading your posts and because you are in your seventh decade you have so much wisdom to share. I too hurt in this world. I'm in my sixties, and I don't recognize this world anymore. But I know through His Word that we are here for His purpose, and just maybe it's sharing His Word with others. God Bless

    1. Oh yes, Arial! Sharing His Word with others is a great part of our purpose here on earth. Perhaps the most important purpose we have, right? What a privilege it is to serve Him! Thank you for sharing your thoughts today. I have learned over the years -- especially the last few -- how much we really do need each other. God bless you. xx

  4. I believe God has a plan for all of us. You make a difference in so many ways. God puts people in our paths for a reason and when we need them most. We all have purpose whether big or small. Nancy your encouraging Monday Morning posts help so many. Thank you sweet friend. xoxo Kris

  5. As I near my 7th decade of living, I find myself looking forward to heaven, too. Although we try to create safe, cozy homes here below, there always seems to be that longing for more...for Christ. Many of us will soon be with Him in all of His glory. "Until then, my heart will go on singing. Until then, with joy I'll (try to) carry on. Until the day my eyes behold that city. Until the day He calls me home." Hallelujah! We are on the way home!

    1. Agree, Pam. As Pascal said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ.” Nothing else will fill that void. And although I enjoy making a nest for myself, I remind myself to hold on to it loosely, and remember that I am not the owner. God is.(Love the Gaithers. :)). xx

  6. God has placed us here in history for his purposes! Just like Esther! Speak truth with love, help our neighbors, encourage the downhearted. Those are just the beginning.

  7. I thought of you after I bought a chair from the thrift shop for my new apartment. It was from Pier 1. It is still in very good shape with a busy but subdued cream, red and sage colors.

  8. I am ahead of you in years. I've seen so much change. BUT God is still the same, and at the 'end of the day', God wins.
I know that I still have a purpose and a job to do--since I am still here. A very wise prof of mine, who was a paraplegic, commented that at the end of his life his job would still be to pray, if nothing else.

  9. SO true! I'm in my seventh decade, too, and Home seems closer than ever before. Yesterday our pastor spoke from I Peter - we are 'aliens and sojourners' here. As my dear, little mother neared the end of life on earth she often said she didn't 'fit' here anymore and she longed for Home! I didn't understand then as well as I do now. Thank you for sharing your heart with us, dear friend.
