Craft Room Challenge

Welcome Cottage Friends,

If you followed my blog when I lived in Oregon, you may remember my cottage craft room. I loved that room and spent many happy creative hours there. Since leaving that home, I haven't had a designated space to pursue my creativity, and I've sorely missed that. Well, in my new-to-me home I now have two spare rooms. One will eventually become a guest room, which leaves a room that I can use as a craft room.

Would you like to join me as I take on a personal challenge to furnish and decorate this craft room on a tiny budget? I've created a "before" video to show you the room, some of the furnishings I already have purchased, and explain my plans.

I'll keep you updated as I perform a budget friendly makeover of this room into my own creative space.

Hugs,

  2. I will follow your craft room makeover. And please share the details about the sewing machine you chose. I'm looking for a good machine and poor reviews on the Singers in my budget put the purchase on hold. JoAnn's had some sales last Fall/winter and in stock but the reviews put me off. Your craft room will be a delight with the selections you shared already. Thanks.

    1. Well, I'm eager to see how much I like this machine, Dee, since it's new to me and a different model than I had before. My sewing is pretty straight forward, nothing fancy, so I feel I don't need to spend a lot of money on a machine with bunches of gadgets, etc. I'll definitely share the experience of breaking in the machine. Thanks for joining me!

  3. Hi Nancy! I can't wait to see what you'll do. That room will be so cute when you're done. My daughter's old room, I've wanted to turn into a "craft room" for years, but my son-in-law stays in that room when he's in town for work. So I'll live vicariously through YOUR craft room!

    Love, Karen

  4. It's nice to see your craft room Nancy. I think the chair will look lovely painted. The material is gorgeous and the curtain is lovely, they complements each other very well.

  6. Great video Nancy! I subscribed to your YT channel.. didn't know you had one. Your craft room will be awesome and it will be so much fun decorating it and fixing it up just right. Love the table.. I used to have one just like it.. was my dining room set and wish I still had it. Was so sturdy and did lots of sewing on it in my dining room years ago. Will be looking forward to your progress!

    1. It's a big table! It kind of dwarfs the room, Marilyn, yet, really, it's what I need. Having experienced a small craft room in the past, I've come to realize the table is the most important part of the room. I'm done with tiny tables. ;)

  7. Lovely space to make into your craft room Nancy - bonus that your outdoor patio can be seen from your table. Good thrifted finds. Looking forward to seeing the work you do creating your craft space.
    Hugs.

  8. I love this. I love that you are moving on with your life. I have started over so often...this is my 31st move...I have been in Indy three years near family here and now time to go near family Florida. Son has bought a condo for me to use. I will start over with lots of boxes. Few items and some furniture from him and he has some pieces of mine...his family is excited. Bittersweet leaving family here ...will live on Gulf. Keep writing...you have come a long way...u r to be admired.

    1. You're very sweet, Brenda. Thirty-one moves is a lot. I lost count after 25, so I can relate. I think you will like living in Florida. My brother and his wife have a park model home in Ocala where they live in the winter, then head back to the Midwest for the summer. If it hadn't been for the fact that my son and his family live in Colorado, I would have relocated to Florida. Much prefer warmer weather, and living near the ocean would be a dream come true for me. That being said, it's good to be near my son. Best wishes for a successful move!

  10. Can't see how you set your room up and decorate it. I had those white curtains some years ago. I liked the cottage look they gave my kitchen.

  13. I think many of us have similar tables, or have had one in the past. I had one very much like it in Oregon, which I used for a dining table. And actually, even though I had a craft room I did a lot of my sewing at that table in the kitchen. This is one reason I wanted a larger table in my craft room. I know from experience I need room to spread out. Thanks for sharing. :)

  14. Nancy, you have some great finds for the furniture. And the colors in the fabric
are lively for the chair and possibly the window. I think the dark wood of the
chair and stand with drawers is so dark , that paint will only be an improvement.
What a project, that later on you will enjoy every minute you can spend in there
    crafting. Lynn

  15. The room is very small, so it needs light furniture to reflect the light and make it seem larger. Thanks for your comments, Lynn!

  16. The volume wasn't working on my laptop for some reason but I love that material sooo much. I think the room is going to be great. I wish I had a second room I could use for crafts. I'm jealous.

  17. Your room is going to be such fun to watch come together. You find incredible buys. It's a good thing we don't thrift shop together - we'd probably 'fight' over the same things!
