"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." Isaiah 26:3
Yesterday after leaving our church worship service and driving barely a block from the driveway, I had the unhappy experience of rear ending a car in front of me. It wasn't a bad accident. No one was hurt and the damage to both of our cars was minimal. Bumpers were scratched and slightly dented. The other driver and I exchanged insurance information, took some photos and continued on our way home. I've been in traffic accidents in the past, but they've never been my fault. This one clearly was, and I felt terrible about my carelessness.
Less than an hour before this happened a visiting pastor gave a sermon at our church about experiencing God's peace in the midst of hard circumstances. As I drove home, knowing that I would have to file a claim with my insurance company and who knows what it would do to my all ready expensive insurance rates, I thought about the words from the pastor; how he had urged us to consider the goodness of God when we are faced with trouble. How God is faithful and desires for us to have the grace of His peace in our lives, no matter the circumstances. And so I began to meditate on the goodness of God that no one was injured. That the owners of the other car are Christians and handled the whole affair with calm, extended grace to me, and praised God for the sermon we had just heard. Here was the peace of God in action.
In the grand scheme of things, a minor fender bender is nothing, yet it can still cause distress and anxious thoughts. I'm so grateful that God is always present and shows Himself to be faithful in so many ways. It's up to us to recognize His goodness and accept the peace that He offers us. We can certainly choose not to do so, and to allow Satan to rob us of any peace we might possess. How foolish we are to do that!
Today's music video God, Please Give Me Peace by Phil Wickham is the perfect song for today's devotional. Let the words be your prayer to God.
I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
