Monday Morning Encouragement -- God Will Do What He Has Promised

I

"For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Genesis 28:15b

In Genesis 18 we find the account of Jacob's dream of a staircase connecting heaven to earth, with angels ascending and descending. At the top of the staircase God stands and reiterates to Jacob the Abrahamic Covenant. Just before Jacob awakens from his dream, he hears God declare that He will not leave Jacob until He has accomplished what He promised. As we continue to study the life of Jacob, we see that God is faithful to His promise, even when Jacob's faith in God is less than perfect.

Throughout the Old Testament we see that God's faithfulness is independent of the faithfulness of His children. There are many accounts of men and women taking matters into their own hands, instead of waiting upon God to deliver on His promise to bless them. Think of barren Sara demanding Abraham take Hagar, her servant, to bed and impregnate her so that Sara could claim the child as her own. Or Abraham telling Sara to pretend she was his sister while in Egypt to protect himself. She was so beautiful he was afraid someone would kill him and take Sara as his wife. There are so many more examples of God's people neglecting to wait upon God to fulfill His promises.

It's no different today. Christians often look for shortcuts to God's blessings. And that's where trouble starts. When we become impatient and decide to act outside of God's will, we  open up our lives to Satan's influence and the sin that results from that decision. Many a life and reputation has been shattered from the refusal to wait upon the Lord.

God is with us in whatever situation we face. He has promised not to leave us until He has completed what He has started. As Paul writes in Philippians 1:6: "And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."

Today's music video He Who Began A Good Work In You by Steve Green is a song of encouragement for all those who are waiting for God to complete the work He has started.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
