"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3
I'm in the seventh decade of my existence, and one thing I've come to understand and accept is that in this life there will be events and circumstances that bring heartbreak. No one will escape this. It's inevitable. When bad things happen, often our first response is to retreat into self pity and hopelessness. Certainly no one ever felt the pain I feel. I may as well give up because things will never be the same. I'll never recover from this. But here's the truth. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33).
Admitting we're in pain and that we feel hopeless is not a sin. That's owning the truth of what we're feeling. The sin is in looking for a way out of our pain that dishonors God. The world is full of ways to do this: drugs, alcohol, pornography, and so on. But there are more subtle ways, more socially "acceptable" ways that we employ, such as overeating or excessive shopping. Such activities will never bring healing to our broken hearts. They will only cause deeper wounds in new ways.
Scripture reminds us over and over again that our Creator is willing and able to mend our broken hearts. The very same God who "determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name" (Psalm 147:4), He who is "great and mighty in power", with "understanding that has no limit" (Psalm 147:5) is able to bring the healing to our broken hearts that we so desperately need. Nothing and no one else will do. His divine healing begins when we humble ourselves and admit to God that we need Him.
Today's music video I Will Heal Your Broken Heart -- A Song From God's Heart/Psalm 147:3/Comfort for the Broken written and performed by Melodies from God -- His Voice In Song. Here's the description of this gentle song from the author: "a song of healing, restoration, and peace. Let God’s promises wash over you with tender grace as He whispers, 'I am near. I will bind your wounds. I will restore you.'"
I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
