"Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
Isaiah 41:10
(I will be out-of-pocket for the next two weeks. Today's devotional is a repost from May 22, 2023.)
Years ago I participated in a women's Bible study that required daily homework. One day the assignment was to personalize a particular scripture; to put my name in place of the pronouns in the verse. It's an exercise I've done before, and its very effective in helping me make God's promises in the Bible my own.
Isaiah 41:10 is such a great promise; one that I think we all need to personalize for those times when we are anxious and worried. So play along with me and let's personalize this one together. I'm using the Amplified Bible version so we really get a double whammy impact of this verse.
Ready? Let's get started. Wherever there's a blank, put in your name.
Say it aloud:
Do not fear [anything], for I am with _______;
Do not be afraid, for I am _______'s God.
I will strengthen _______, be assured I will help _______;
I will certainly take hold of _______ with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’
Repeat as needed. :-)
God loves you and wants you to see scripture as much more than words on a page. He wants you to recognize it as His truth and promise to you.
He is faithful and will never forsake you. He says to you, "I am your God!"
Today's music video Behold God by Harvest is an old song that I fell in love with the first time I heard it. The harmony is so perfectly lovely, and the melody is one that has stayed with me over the years. And the message is spot on for today's devotional. I trust it will bless you.
I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
Thank you for that idea. I sometimes have put my name in a scripture and it is very encouraging.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time away.
Very helpful Nancy, thank you. I'm going to begin doing this more often with my reading.
