Monday Morning Encouragement -- The Great Encourager

"Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." Psalm 55:22

Have you ever had times in your life when you questioned if you were hearing God correctly? You've set your feet on a path that you believe is the one God has chosen for you, but then somewhere down the road the scenery looks unfamiliar and you wonder if you misread God's road map. The burden of doubt presses down on your shoulders and you think "Maybe this isn't where God wants me to be after all. Maybe I'm supposed to be doing something else."

I remember clearly a time in my life when this happened, and I fretted and stewed and hoped that very soon God would give me a sign that showed me I was in the right place. How foolish I was! Our Heavenly Father is compassionate and loving and kind. He wants us to immediately come to Him when we're discouraged and ask Him for the encouragement we need. When we are weak, He is strong!

It took a few days for me to remember this, and once I did I prayed, "Lord, would you please encourage me in this?" And you know what? He did. He showered me with encouragement. Through an email I received, a phone call from an out-of-state friend, and the words of a friend nearby the Lord spoke right to my discouraged heart and assured me that I was right where He wanted me, doing just what He wanted me to do.

Our enemy Satan wants to keep us from taking our burdens -- whatever they are -- to the Lord. He doesn't want us to depend on God, and to give Him the glory. But let's not let him do that. Let's remember verses like Psalm 55:22 and cast our burdens upon the Lord. He's the Great Encourager!

Today's music video Strong by Anne Wilson points us to the One who makes us strong when we are weak: Jesus!

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

  1. I've prayed for those signs too! Sometimes we have to step out in faith and trust God completely, because there will always be times that we face uncertainty. Thank you for always bringing us such thoughtful messages!

  2. Yes, I have wondered sometimes whether I was doing the right thing. I love it when God confirms that He knows me and knows what is best for me.

  3. Thank you Nancy.. always good to get some encouragement from YOU and the Lord! I went through this last year when I was wanting to move to be closer to my son. I prayed alot about it, asking the Lord to direct my path..... as I WANTED to go, but not sure He wanted me to go! I never seemed to get a sign.. so I kind of kept forging forward with what I wanted, always wondering if I was indeed doing what HE wanted for me! At one point, I did realize that the Lord would want me to be close to my son.. why wouldn't he? And when I had almost given up on any sign from Him, and wasn't getting anywhere with selling my house or finding a new place to live, all of a sudden everything happened at once.. and fast! Two house offers, found a place here (where I am now) and everything moved forward quite fast! It was all a blur, and by then I figured he was moving me along in HIS own time! Happy week! Marilyn

    1. Marilyn, thanks so much for sharing your experience. I love it! We never know what God is doing behind the scenes do we? Who knows but that your new home was not yet ready for you, and God was holding things up until it was. Anyway, I think you handled it all perfectly. Moving forward in faith and reckoning that God would want you closer to your son shows a lot of wisdom. So happy you are right where you aare meant to be! Warm hugs, my friend.
