"One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts." Psalm 145:4
Last week I had the privilege of overhearing a conversation between two of my co-workers. One of them, a young Christian woman, was talking to the other, a young man, about God. She was witnessing to him as they worked side by side. He had lots of questions and it was clear to me that he is a skeptic. Nevertheless, she patiently shared her faith with gentleness and respect.
Afterward she came to me and lamented that she had not been able to persuade him that God is real, and that He wants a relationship with him. She felt like she hadn't done enough, and she was discouraged. At that moment my heart was aflame. This young lady has a passion for Jesus and leading others to Him, and I encouraged her as much as possible to never quit sharing the truth with others, and that she had planted seeds that God would water and grow. The results of her faithfulness are in His hands. As Acts 2:47 reminds us, " And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." The Lord brings the increase!
We hear and read a lot about the falling away of the Gen Z generation; that they have turned their backs on God and are largely unreachable. But I don't believe that for a minute. They are searching, they are seeking, and some of them have already found Jesus and are following Him. When we find one like my friend, we need to come along side of them and encourage them. We need to pray for them, and ask God to give the increase. This generation will reach this generation. Just as the Jesus Movement of the seventies reached me. It wasn't an older person who lead me to Christ. It was one of my own generation.
Older believers have a vital role to play in God's plan of redemption. We are called to tell of His works to the younger generation. Not just our own children and grandchildren, but to those young people who Jesus places in our path. They're out there and they need us. We need to open our eyes and hearts and pray for them. And when God introduces us to young Christians like my friend who are willing to share the Gospel, we need to walk beside them and spur them on to fulfill His call to make disciples.
Today's music video I Answer The Call by Steve Green inspires me to be faithful to whatever God calls me to do. I hope it will inspire you as well.
I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
That was a very wise response that you gave her, Nancy. So many times we are the seed planters, by our words and our conduct, how we handle challenges and the storms of life. Then, at a later time, someone else "waters the seeds" and then someone else is there for the harvest. Being the seed planters is hugely important!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful reminders Nancy! Thank you for your faithful Monday scriptures and lessons. Hugs....Marilyn
