Monday Morning Encouragement -- A Steadfast Heart

"My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, and make melody!" Psalm 57:7

There is boundless joy that comes from a heart that is steadfast, fully fixed on God. To have the calm assurance that He is trustworthy. That He is good. All the time.

The great hymn writers of the past knew it. Their songs ring out with praise. "It Is Well With My Soul", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus",  and,  "Like a River Glorious":

Like a river glorious is God’s perfect peace,

Over all victorious, in its bright increase;

Perfect, yet it floweth fuller every day,

Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.

Refrain:

Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest

Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,

Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;

Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,

Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.

Every joy or trial falleth from above,

Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love;

We may trust Him fully all for us to do;

They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.

  2. The story behind the song, It Is Well With My Soul, is so moving. When I think of how the author and his wife remained steadfast in their faith through all that they suffered it gives me encouragement to be steadfast in my faith in God. And I know that God gives us perseverance and encouragement. (Romans 15:5)

  3. To my ears there is nothing like the old hymns, although I love the praise chorus' too. I have YouTube on now with 9 hours of non-stop hymns playing. Sounds like Reign is wonderful. I love Lindsey's voice and her husband is so talented on virtually every instrument. Their boys have great voices too. I've watched their blog for years and have always enjoyed their quiet spirits and joy in God and their family.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy
