Creating a Christmas Cloche with Mostly Things I Had on Hand

Back in the day when I worked at Pier 1, I bought a candle cloche that was on clearance. I've never used it for burning candles, and for the most part it's been squirreled away in my kitchen cabinet. Last week, while gathering my Christmas decor, I spied the cloche and had an idea to repurpose it into a Christmas cloche.

I had in mind to create the cloche with things I already had on hand. However, I knew I'd have to purchase something to put inside. Since the cloche isn't very big, whatever I bought would have to be miniature size.

I began my project by painting the base in Rustoleum linen white. It just so happens that I had a lid from a 4 oz. jar that fit perfectly over the opening.

I painted the lid in the same linen white. Because of the lip around the top opening of the cloche, I needed to first glue a piece of cardboard to the underside of the lid to give the glue something to grip, and then I glued that to the glass lip around the top of the cloche. Finally, I decorated the lid with a pine cone, greenery, and a red berry.

The woody sedan carrying the Christmas tree is a miniature ornament that came in a 4 pak at Wal-mart. It's a bit sentimental, as my grandfather owned a woody that looked a lot like this little one. In keeping with my plan to use mostly what I had on hand, I used an unraveled cotton ball for the snow, and I made the directional sign pointing to the fictional village "Joy" from a clipped skewer and a piece of cardboard that I "aged" with dark antique wax. I wanted everything to have a rustic look. An old handmade sign that you might see out on a country road in bygone days.

Everything was glued down with hot glue.

I had so much fun making this Christmas cloche.

Clever and festive sitting atop a cookie tin. I admit, it has been a couple years since
I was "inspired" to make any new Christmas theme decorations. Silly me, I had bought a bell jar for $2 at Goodwill a few years ago to use for slip starting a new rose. I don't know why, but I got on a clean out stuff mood and sent it back to Goodwill! Now wishing I had kept it in the basement longer of course, lol. I see these tiny fairy lights at the Dollar Tree and think, wow, I could have used them. Too late, and a dollar short as the old saying goes. I love to repurpose things Nancy, and you have done a beautiful job! Love how you found things around the house that you could use. It is darling! I filled a vase with fairy lights and mixed in brightly colored ornaments, with the fairy lights on a timer so they come on at dark. I love it! Thanks for the inspiration! Blessings :)

It's gorgeous Nancy., and it really sets if off sitting on the tin with the trees beside it. I'm not creating anything, but I want to buy a cloche and create something now! Thank you for the ideas, I will bookmark your post.

Nancy, that jar top is inspired! What a neat idea. I also love that you used what you had on hand. The past few Christmases, I've been very into using what I have, rather than buying new. I like those nostalgic Christmases, too! Hugs!!

Your Christmas cloche is darling! When I saw it I remembered that I have some vintage gallon glass jars with lids. You've given me an idea! I think I'll recruit my sweetheart to help me find a round wooden base and I'll have a Christmas cloche next year!
