My guest bath progress slowed down the past few weeks while I tended to outdoor projects that needed to be completed before cold weather set in. I'm glad I took the time to do that, because this morning we received our first of the season snow, mixed with rain, and tonight it's supposed to freeze.
On Monday I found time to finish the recessed wall niche, and I'm loving the way it looks.
As I explained in my last guest bath progress report, I removed an old medicine cabinet with a mirrored front.
Then I found a used wall niche at Habitat Restore for $9.
It was taller than the opening left by the removed medicine cabinet, so I bought a reciprocal saw and enlarged the hole until the niche fit perfectly.
I painted the niche white and drilled some countersunk holes so I could screw the niche into the frame left by the medicine cabinet, fill in the holes with wood filler, and finish with some touch up paint.
It feels so good to have this piece of the guest bath project complete.
Texturizing the walls is next on the list. Stay tuned.
Hugs,
It looks perfect! What a cute little spot to display things.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mari. Now comes the fun part -- deciding what to put on the shelves. xo
DeleteThat turned out so beautiful. I'm so impressed by your talent in your remodeling projects.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I give all the credit for my "talent" in remodeling projects to God. Truly. Everything starts with prayer!!!! xo
DeleteOne thing for sure Nancy, you are handy with the electric tools and that's great. Enlarging the opening to fit the open shelving. It looks great and you must now enjoy walking into the bath and seeing a very posh looking room. Lynn and Precious
ReplyDeleteIt's a big improvement over the mirrored medicine cabinet, that's for sure Lynn! xo
DeleteYou are amazing! That looks great!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, my friend. God is amazing. I couldn't do any of this without Him. :)
DeleteYes you are Nancy. You got out your saw and got to work! Love that attitude and your $9 shelf looks great♥ Keep sharing your progress and stay warm.
DeleteGod bless you, Susan. Thank you!
DeleteYou are absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteI have a wooden cathedral window style frame that someone gave me. How do I paint it white and add blue accents? (as in what method, what kind of paint)
It depends on the material of the mirror. Is it wood? MDF?
DeleteMade of wood. Very 'rugged' looking.
DeleteSo, if I were painting it, I would use chalk paint. There are a lot of good brands on the market. My go-to is Rustoleum Chalked Paint in Linen White. Mainly, because it's reasonably priced and easy to find. Ace Hardware carries it, and I've found it at Wal-mart. If the wood is stained, I would recommend first applying a coat of primer or a product that will seal it so that the tannins don't bleed through when you paint it. If it's not stained, then you can just go ahead and paint it. I use a Wooster 2" shortcut hook & hold brush, which I found at Home Depot. It may take up to 3 coats to completely cover the wood. Without seeing the mirror, I can't tell you how to do blue accents. It depends on what details you want to highlight. Finally, you'll need to apply a wax or coat of poly to seal the paint. I hope this helps, but feel free to email me if you have questions. :)
DeleteIt looks great! You've got some good skills, but we already knew that from your previous projects.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Barbara. xo
DeleteYour skills, expertise, and creativity is just amazing, Nancy! I love seeing all the progress you have made!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your encouraging words, Cheryl. God bless you! xo
DeleteOh you did such a great job Nancy! I love that niche! You are so handy.. I'm envious! I found a reciprocating saw when I was getting ready for my yard sale a couple of weeks ago.. I had bought it for my hubby and thought how handy it would be.. but he never used it! But I did keep it... you never know when you may need one! Your redo of your bathroom is coming along! We have been having freezing nights too now, for a few nights.. no snow yet! xoxo Marilyn
ReplyDeleteYes, hang on to those power tools, Marilyn! :) xo
DeleteWell done Nancy, it looks brilliant :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Polly.
DeleteI love your posts! they help me with my redorating.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad! :)
DeleteIt is awesome Nancy. Love it. Happy Weekend. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kris. xo
DeleteIt is going to be a long old winter if it's already freezing in early November. I'm still wearing a t-shirt though we did have some rain tonight. Other than that, I am completely in awe of your crafting skills - and all to such impressive results. The cabinet is gorgeous and the lavender is the perfect touch. Well done!

Great job. It looks great. I had to laugh at the snow. I'm still running AC but we are supposed to have a cold front this weekend.
