Two Thrift Store Purchases = One Great $5 Lamp

On a recent thrifting excursion I came across a French script lampshade for $2.

Did I need a lamp shade?

No.

But the shade was my style and in great shape. And for $2 I couldn't pass it up. I knew that sooner or later I'd find a lamp base to use with it.

As it turns out, about a week later I saw this lamp at Goodwill for $3.

The burgundy shade was icky, and broken. However, the lamp base was in perfect condition, and I had a hunch my French script lamp shade would fit perfectly with it.

I didn't do a thing to the lamp, except clean it.

A few years ago I read a post by an interior design blogger who suggested that every room needs something black. She gave five reasons why, but the one that sold me was "black anchors a room". Since I read her post I have tried to incorporate black into every room I decorate, and I have to say I like the result.

It was nice to find thrifted decor pieces that I didn't have to paint or makeover. Just marry the two and let them live happily ever after.

The plumber installed the needed part on my water heater and just left. Forty-five minutes from now I should have hot water, and I'm hoping this is the final fix. I see a bubble bath in my future!

Enjoy the weekend!

Hugs,

  2. I hope the plumbing fix worked and you've had your bubble bath by now! :-) Also, I really like the lampshade that you put with the lamp. They look like they were made to go together.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  3. What very lucky happenstance that you would find this French lamp shade when that is a style and I'll look that you are working on. That is just pure good fortune and for only $2. Your looks turned out very nice and I can certainly see where a touch of black does make a big difference in the decorations. It helps to show off the rest of the items on the table and the mirror on the wall. The bubble bath sounds like it will be a delight in glad that you got the water heater fixed again, for like you said, hopefully the last time. Lynn and Precious XX

    1. Thanks, Lynn. Lamps and lamp shades are one of my favorite things to thrift. I can usually find them for a good price, and should they need a makeover, it's easy and inexpensive to do. xx

  5. Love the shade and black lamp base! Like Kris said.. they were made for each other! And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your hot water heater is now fixed for good!!! Oh I hope you do take that hot bubble bath too. I finally got my tub cleaned out since last summer.. I had it full of stuff from under my kitchen sink when we had a new faucet put in and the floor redone. I FINALLY just a few weeks ago, got the new floor sanded and stained, and put my stuff back (minus alot I threw away!). Now I have my tub back and I've already had two nice hot baths! Have a great weekend! Marilyn

  6. I love French script on things. And how fun to get it and then find the perfect lamp for it. Without spending much money you have a lamp that looks expensive! So fun. Enjoy your bubble bath.
