Forsythia is one of my favorite signs of spring, and although it hasn't yet made its appearance here in Northern Colorado, that didn't stop me from featuring it in my spring centerpiece. That's the beauty of faux florals. When we don't have access to certain flowers or greenery, a nice faux substitute can suffice.
I found the forsythia for my centerpiece at Wal-mart. When I was checking out, a stranger came up to me and said she thought the forsythia was real when she first saw it. I agree. By the way, did you know that forsythia is a member of the olive family?
The runner is a vintage hand embroidered piece. I've had it for awhile, and have been waiting for spring to use it. The needlework on this runner is amazing.
This centerpiece suits my simple approach to the spring season.
Thank you for all your sweet comments on my kitchen cabinet painting reveal. I appreciate each and every one.
Hugs,
I love it! I have an enamel pitcher that looks much the same and some faux forsythia. I'm going to do the same thing. The runner is so pretty too.
ReplyDeleteWow, Nancy, that runner is gorgeous. I need to go thrifting with you!! Happy {almost} spring! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! I never find treasures like that at thrift stores. I have a few that my Mom embroidered and I have kept them. Maybe I'll make one someday too.
ReplyDeleteThe forsythia does look real. I need to get some flowers for the cemetery and our next walk there this weekend. All of the ones I put at the graves in early winter have blown away and it's time for springy flowers anyway. Now that we're back living here, I like to make sure there are flowers on my parents graves and Dennis's Dad's and grandparents graves.
Take care and enjoy your touch of spring in the house.
Blessings,
Betsy
Nancy, you're evasive forsythias is just the touch a person needs after a long winter. And those flowers really do look like they were just cut. Your table runner looks so much like the handiwork my maternal grandmother made. I only have two pieces of her work today and wish I had much more. I enjoyed the photo thank you. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteHello Nancy and happy Friday. The runner is so pretty and I love a white pitcher with any flowers and the forsythia look gorgeous. Have a great weekend. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteOh, that's lovely. Those faux flowers definitely look real. That table runner is beautiful. Such a nice display with both together. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI remember forsythia when I lived up in Vancouver, WA... all along the freeways it would grow like crazy and was so pretty when it was all in full bloom! My mom always called it a weed and didn't want it in her yard. It's usually the first thing I see here in central Oregon as a sign that spring is approaching. Love the pitcher.. I have a couple like it but they are brown. My mom and aunt used to embroider pieces just like that.. my mom once did a big tablecloth with embroidery all over it! I still have it.. it must now be close to 100 years old. The flowers really do brighten up the room! xoxo Marilyn
ReplyDeleteRunner reminds me of my mother's embroidery talent. Glad you could "save it". Love the simplicity of the entire centerpiece. Have a great weekend and keep on sharing your finds♥
ReplyDeleteForsythia! I love it! Last summer I planted two forsythia in my back yard. Waiting to see if they 'took'.
ReplyDeleteI love forsythia too. The beauty of the simple setting and gorgeous embroidery is in perfect harmony. Another win.
ReplyDeleteI just love the runner and pitcher! I have a small collection of those types of pitchers. They are just so useful for so many things and add a touch of farmhouse to our decor. May the Lord bless you, sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteI like Forsythia too, it's a sign that Spring is on it's way. It was just starting to bloom im my garden as I left for Australia, so I might have missed it, but there is a beautiful yellow tree in bloom at the side of my daughter's house, so I am enjoying that :-)
