Monday Morning Encouragement - Pointing to Jesus

"To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens!"
Psalm 123:1

Not long after I became a Christian I met a woman who lived and worked in a Northern California Christian camp where my husband and I were vacationing. The camp grounds were covered in pine trees. One day the woman took a break from her work and joined me on the porch of the cabin where we were staying. She talked about her life at the camp, about the beauty around us and, especially, of the magnificent tall pines. "I love the pines," she said, "because they all point to their Maker." I never forgot her comment, nor the joy she took in serving Jesus every day. With her actions and words she pointed people to the Lord -- her Maker -- just as the pines did. Now, years later, I live in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies with thousands of pine trees around me. When I see them I can't help but remember what that very special woman told me, and I say to myself, "I love the pines, because they all point to their Maker." I want to be like that woman and those pines. I want to point others to Jesus. How about you?

This morning's song Look to Jesus by Phil Wickham is a praise song to Jesus for all He's done, and reminds us to keep our eyes on Him.

I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.

  1. Hi Nancy, You do point people to Jesus and your Monday morning message is an encouragement and a blessing. Thank you :)

  2. Such a beautiful lesson you learned from talking with the camp leader. Now I will think of the pines like that too. Thanks for sharing Nancy. Have a wonderful new week. xoxo Kris

  3. What an encourager you are! This is a great story. Every post you point to Jesus, too!

  4. "they point to their maker.."
so true - i love that word picture.
i too live amongst the tall pines.
the scent, the view(s), the mountains.
    love it all.

  5. I will never look at evergreen trees the same. Yes, they point to their Maker--such a good reminder to all of us to make Him the focus. Thank you for your encouragement, Nancy. May the Lord bless you!!

  6. Well wouldn't you know it, my neighbor's very large pine tree is right outside my kitchen window...and now everytime I look at it, I'll be remembering your words! Hugs!!

  7. Thank you Nancy I need your encourager today thank you

  8. Now I know why I've always loved evergreen and pine trees all my life. There has always just been "something" about them. They are so tall and majestic... and truly a work from the Lord. Where I live now, there are NO TALL TREES anywhere and I feel really bleak and lost without them. I hope to one of these days get back to living where I can be witness and live among the tall pines and firs and evergreens.. and look up to my Maker. Thank you for the wonderful words. Marilyn

  9. How did I miss your Monday post? I love your comment about pines pointing to God. Now I will never look at a tree and not thing that.
    Happy weekend to you!

    1. Thank you. I hope you're week is off to a great start!
