Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
Galatians 4:6
Yesterday in America we celebrated Father's Day, a day set aside to celebrate the dads of our country. Many children joyfully honored their fathers with gifts and special attention. Unfortunately, there are some children who have been abused or abandoned by their fathers, and for them remembering their father only brings pain. But there is a father who is always faithful, always loving and kind. His name is Jehovah, Yahweh, God. He holds out His arms to us and beckons us to come to Him and discover what it feels like to have a relationship with a perfect father. By receiving Christ the Son, we become the adopted sons and daughters of God the Father. We receive His Holy Spirit and our hearts cry out "Abba! Father!" Vine's Expository Dictionary of the New Testament says, "Abba is the word framed by the lips of infants, and betokens unreasoning trust; 'father' expresses an intelligent apprehension of the relationship. The two together express the love and intelligent confidence of the child." What a beautiful description of the redemptive relationship we have with God once we become followers of Christ. We are His beloved children, who can now approach Him with unreasoning trust and confidence. For us, every day should be Father's Day.
Chris Tomlin's song so beautifully expresses the goodness of God, the Father. I pray it will bless you and reveal to you the Perfect Father.
I love you, I'm thinking of you, and I'm praying for you.
Hugs,
He is good. I'm thankf ul. My own dad was saved after I was born and so while I grew up in a Christian home, both my parents were first generation believers and struggled as they grew in the Lord. So it was challenging in many ways, but God's goodness helped us all through. My parents are nearing their 62 wedding anniversary, and they are the best grandparents, and great grands. I'm so grateful for Grace.
ReplyDeleteDeanna, thank you for sharing your wonderful testimony. Congratulations to your parents for a long, successful marriage. That in itself is a testimony to God's amazing grace. xx
DeleteIt is great we always have God our father that we all share to be always loving and with us always. I always think of those with fathers that are gone or have abandoned them or abused them to know they have a father in God. Have a great week. xoxo Kris
