Puppy Love and Other News

Hello Cottage Friends,

I'd like to introduce you to Hazel.

Isn't she cute? Hazel's the newest addition to my son's family, and she's brought a lot of joy into this home.

When she's not rough housing with the other two dogs, or playing footsie, she likes to sleep.

And she's not very discriminating as to where she gets here zzz's. We were playing outside, when she suddenly dropped on the step and conked out.

She loves to snuggle, and sometimes Hazel crawls into a stray throw and dreams of chasing squirrels.

As  my son put it the night he came home to find a new puppy had appeared, "At this time with the stay at home restrictions, the kids need something to look forward to." They do, indeed. And every day this little charmer brings a smile to their faces, as well as to the rest  of us. She's a blessing.

I'm going to miss her when I finally get into my own place. I'm several steps closer to that happening, as I'm now in contract on a manufactured home in a 55+ park. We've got some maintenance details to work out, so it's still not a done deal. However, I'll give you a little peek at my, hopefully, new cottage.

I have a new full-time job with a major retailer, which I'm really enjoying. I work in online order fulfillment, and log between 7 and 10 miles a day walking the aisles and filling baskets. It's just what I wanted. A job that keeps me moving, lifting, and physically fit. Yesterday I had a doctor visit to remove some stitches from a lesion I had removed from my arm and my blood pressure was 114/72. Not bad for a senior citizen, right?

Seriously, I'm so grateful to God for my good health. I'm grateful, too, for His constant provision for everything I need. If all goes well with the home negotiations, I'll be moving into my new "cottage" the first week in June. I'm already visualizing my life there, and how I can create a peaceful and joyful cottage.

So, that pretty much brings you up to date on my life back in Colorado. Oh, I almost forgot! In our free time, my son and I have been visiting garden centers, and getting ideas for the flower beds around his home.

On one of our outings I spotted this rose, and oh! The scent was intoxicating. In a world of beautiful, but scentless roses, this treasure made my heart sing.

I took a photo of the tag for future reference. If there's any way I can plant one of these in my new abode, you can bet I'm going to do it.

It's been too cold to do any planting here, but we should be seeing some warmer days later this week, and then we can go dig in the dirt.

Hope the weather is warming where you are.

Hugs,

  2. Nancy, what a cutie that pup is, her paws looked like they were dipped in paint, perfectly! She must be so fun to cuddle. Congratulations on your new home, too! That's very, very exciting. I can't wait to see what you do with it and where you plant one of those lovely rose bushes. It must be a wonderful experience to spend so much time with your son. Silver linings...Hugs to you!

  4. I love Hazel! Partly because my new great-granddaughter was born last week and her middle name is Hazel after a great-great grandmother. But I also love your family's new Hazel for her sweet eyes and those paws! You'll have to keep us up on Hazel as you blog. I'm so happy for you that you'll soon have your own new Joyful Cottage! You will love nesting in it. Nancy, I wish I had your blood pressure! Way to go, girl! And thank you for the time you gave me the name of the paint for Swedish red houses. We're not jet to the point of being able to paint but that's the shade I want.

  5. Hazel is so cute. Maybe she can have sleep overs at your new place. I live in a 55+ apartment complex and love it. So quiet and my location is perfect for tree gazing. I have many potted plants and hope you can have some in your nice little yard. I'd love to have a yard again. Looks like everything is coming up "Roses" for you. I'm so glad

  6. Good morning Nancy! It is always a joy to see you post in this Blogworld of diminishing blogs, mine being one of them! Your new cottage is going to be lovely, I just know it. Thank God we have been able to stay at home and work from home but it appears that this nightmare will be with us for a while. In the mean time, may our hopes in Jesus and keeping busy going about His business keep us in His will, cheerful in all weather and an inspiration for others to do the same.

  7. Hazel is a cutiepie. It's nice to have something that brings joy into our days during this time of isolation. Praying that your little house in that community works out great for you. What a nice little yard and that rose would be a lovely addition and the start of a wonderful garden. Have a great day ~ FlowerLady

  16. Oh Nancy that puppy just melted my heart. I am so happy you found a job that keeps you moving and happy. I am praying your cottage comes together with no snags. Are you buying or renting? I know the lot is rented but what about the mobile home.? Can't wait to see your decor ideas and garden. I would plant that beautiful rose first thing. Keep us posted and God bless you. Debbie

  17. Aw, what a sweet, little puppy! And, that house! I just LOVE it! Oh, you would have it looking like a dollhouse in no time! I so hope it works out for you. The rose bush would be so pretty in that yard and would go so well with the color. It is so sweet that you and your son are so close and doing the yard projects together. All things are working together for your good, dear friend. God is so faithful to His Word. May He continue to bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you and give you His peace, in Jesus' name.

  19. Nancy, I have been following your blog since you were designing your delightful red cottage in the
Northwest. I think that God had bigger ideas for you when you were not able to purchase the
cute but expensive house in Texas. He knew your future and it sounds as if it is more secure now.
I do hope your new cozy home will bring you comfort and enjoyment. Glad you found a good
job at this time in our crazy world.

I am tired of thinking about it but it sounds like something I'd love to do. Can't wait to see your new cottage. I am assuming it is nearby your son?

  27. I've been following A Joyful Cottage for years, and although I've never written before, I feel as though we know each other.

It's my hope your cottage has become a reality and I am looking forward to hearing about it in future posts. How exciting to hear of your new job. It sounds like a perfect fit. (Reminder that God has promised to meet all of our needs.)

You truly are an inspiration to me. What an example of godliness and grace!

Wish I knew where in CO you're located. I live in the foothills of the Rockies, as well (of course, there are many towns, cities along the foothills). Is there any way I can be in touch with you personally?

May God continue to bless you on this journey.

  28. The new puppy is adorable! A new home is exciting! You will have to watch Lindsay Dormer. She use to have a small blog that I followed. But she started a Youtube when she moved to a mobile home. Everything is on a budget, because she is an art teacher. xoxo Su

And how exciting to hear that you are working on getting your own place! I'm thrilled for you Nancy, and thankful you've found a job that meets your needs, and keeps you fit too! What a blessing! Will be praying it all works out and that we get to follow you along in your decorating excitement :) Many blessings to you!

  30. I know you will love your new cottage. (It looks quite new, actually) Right now, we live in a 55+ community and find the other neighbors to be friendly and pleasant.
And your job sounds like a good fit for you.
Purple Iceberg! The white ones smell heavenly (I have one in my garden) so I imagine that the fragrance is the same. And that color!!
