Living Room Reveal

Happy Monday, Cottage Friends.

It's a peaceful fall day here in Texas. I was surprised to open the bedroom window this morning and feel a chill. It's 62 as a I write this, with an expected high of 78 degrees today.

Lovely.

Since we last met I've been working on furnishing our living room. Between my work schedule and personal obligations, it's been slow going. I'm far enough along now, though, to give you a glimpse of my progress.

All of the upholstered seating is from Pier 1; as is the area rug, the farmhouse console table that holds the TV, and the lamp and pillows.

I'm so thankful to God for my Pier 1 job. With the great sales or my employee discount I've been able to put together a beautiful room. Of course, having an accomplished artist for a husband doesn't hurt either. His stunning artwork brings life to our home.

On my list of items needed to complete the living room is a lamp for the table between the two chairs, as well as more decorative accessories.

They're the icing on the cake and the piece of decorating that truly personalizes a room and makes it "yours".

Near the living room window, which is quite large, I've created what I call a "garden room". We've owned the wicker chairs for awhile. The bench is a new addition from Pier 1.

Since the front door opens up into this room, I wanted to create a separation so that guests don't walk right into the living room. I've always had a thing about that. I don't like it. Not sure why, but I just don't. So, I decided to create two "rooms".

Now when guests enter our home the first thing they see is this cozy, casual sitting area. It's a space where Dennis and I can sit, drink coffee, and enjoy the sunshine from the window. I've begun growing plants here and will continue to add more as time goes on.

I'm not doing much in the way of fall decorating. Right now I need to budget my money for necessities, and get the basics. Seasonal decorating will come later when I have more disposable income. :)

I love my Pier 1 job, and have taken on more responsibility as a Sales Leader. Dennis is busy painting and connecting with other artists, so my job gives me the opportunity to get out of the house and meet people. I like that.

Hope you're enjoying the fall season. Thanks for stopping by.

Hugs,

Nancy

  1. Oh Nancy how cozy your room is turning out. I really like your garden room. I would love to sit there with my coffee and devotions in the morning. It is still warm, well actually hot here in the South. We have had a lot of cool breezy mornings and evenings. I however have sneezing fits from the pollen so do not sit out as often as I would like.

So happy you are enjoying your work. I really like Pier One too and would have a hard time not spending my entire paycheck there. LOL

So happy to see a post today. Debbbie

  2. Hi Nancy, Been thinking of you and hey... it is your turn to call. LOL. Nice to see your new post.Wow- you sure have made your space cozy. I love that chair and ottoman as it looks SO comfy. And the tufted back sofa..oh la la. Okay -I want to steal your area rug. I am thinking of one in the same colors for the winter months in my drafty farmhouse. Pier One a great place to shop. I love their pillow department. The little chippy metal house on stilts is sweet.. Is that a candle holder? I can see a little tiny mini wreath on it for Christmas above the door or on the tiny windows or tiny pumpkins around it for Fall. What a sweet piece. The artwork is amazing and bet your fav artist gave you a special deal on it. WOW..the paintings sure get your attention and I like how you use furniture and color choices that let that amazing artwork shine and take center stage. Lovely.

  3. Well... look how far you have come! To start with nothing and then to see your cozy living room, it's amazing!

  4. I was thinking of you just the other day when I passed Pier I. Your room looks so great and finding what you need at Pier 1 is a blessing as compact furniture is often hard to find. You've got seating for quite a few if company comes calling. As I have lived in several cottage style houses I know how hard it can be to find just the right piece. Go Girl. Love the sky photo so much.

  9. Nancy, your place looks lovely, you have real eye for design. And so funny, I was literally just at Pier One! I was giggling with the girls that I was there for pumpkins as they were putting out the Christmas decor...in 85 degree weather. What a sweet bunch. It really does look like a fun store to work in. Hugs!!

I'm thankful to see that you are doing well, and enjoying your new home, and getting it all furnished through your new job as well! How wonderful is that! I just love the neutral color scheme you've used, and of course Dennis' work on the walls truly breaths life into your cozy home! I like the idea of two sitting areas too, it just looks wonderful! So happy for you both :)

  13. So glad to see a post from you! It had gone into my spam folder for some reason and I almost missed it! I notice you've changed your header and no longer have the little red cottage there... kind of sad... but I see that you're loving and adding love to your new home! Everything looks warm and cozy and comfy. I love how you made your entry area and more plants there eventually will look wonderful. Great idea! Steve's painting adds such a bright touch... glad he's meeting area artists and that you are enjoying your job. Hugs... Marilyn

    1. It does take time, Debbie. I made up my mind I wouldn't be in a hurry, but would wait until I found exactly what I wanted at the price I was willing to pay. Patience pays off. :)

  15. Your home looks so cozy and comfy, as always. I love the way you are putting it together. The 'entry' area is perfect! My front door opens right into our living room and I've tried to create a bit of entry feeling, too. It's good to see you here again. Sending Hugs,

  16. Hi Nancy, your new home is coming along beautifully, but then you have a real eye for bringing things together and marrying charm and comfort.
Thank you for your friendship and most certainly for your prayers.
We are blessed with christian friends praying for us and I know that, that is the reason our life is going as well as it is. Steve's last MRI came back very positive (stable was the word his doctor used). We are keeping our eyes, heart and mind directed toward our Savior and He is blessing us with comfort, love and peace.
    God bless you.
    Connie :)
