Welcome Cottage Friends!
I can't lie. I'm over-the-moon excited about the title of this post. Our cottage construction is complete, except for a few odds and ends that we'll attend to; such as me painting the doors and porch railing and Dennis installing the backsplash in the kitchen and butler's pantry (the tile should arrive tomorrow).
In my previous report we left off with the gutter installation. Boy, am I glad that was finished before we had two really big downpours. Seeing all that water directed to the dry creek bed was a joy.
So, here's what's happened since July 26.
July 29, 2015
The countertops are installed in the kitchen and butler's pantry.
Here's a photo of the butler's pantry counter before cutting the hole for the sink.
I love, love, love these counters. Chuck did a fantastic job of building and finishing them.
July 30 - August 2, 2015
I spend a lot of time staring at my kitchen and imagining cooking a meal once the sink is installed.
August 3, 2015
Brent and Matt from The Stove Store install our gas heating stove.
August 4 - 5, 2015
Casey Russell our wonderful plumber installs the kitchen and butler pantry sinks and fixtures.

We get a final approved inspection on all but the electric (that comes later from the electrical inspector). I do a happy dance as I remove all the labels from the windows.
Oh nuts! Now I have no excuse. . .I have to wash the windows. |
August 8 - 9, 2015
We begin the process of going through our rented storage units and decide what to bring to the cottage, what to leave, what to ignore, what to hope someone steals. . .just kidding about the stealing comment. But, boy, moving is not a fun job. You know that, right?
We bring stuff home.
I unpack boxes and organize the kitchen. This is where my latent OCD decides to make an appearance, and I start to feel like Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets.
August 10 - 11, 2015
I'm cooking again. Even enjoying some of my own tomatoes and cucumbers. And cutting flowers for the cottage.
We pull up some of the protective floor covering and discuss furniture placement -- yada, yada, yada.
August 12, 2015
And this is where I'm going to leave you. With a photo of the kitchen sink dressed in the skirt I made yesterday.
I'll reveal the whole kitchen soon. But not today. I want to tweak a few things first. As for the rest of the cottage, same thing. As rooms get put together I'll be sure to show you. You know how it is. . .it's like wanting to put on a little lipstick before you have your photo taken. You want to look your best for the camera.
I can't tell you how I feel right now. Can't describe it adequately. Maybe it's akin to waking up from a really, really good dream only to find you weren't dreaming at all. And you're totally mystified at what just happened. How did your dream become reality? God's grace. That's it. Just by His grace I can call this lovely cottage home.

ReplyDeleteNancy,
ReplyDeleteI feel satisfaction and happiness for you and Dennis as you invited us all in your building from day one. The day's turned into months and the job site construction began to show progress of a cottage of dreams and plans layer by layer. is it silly for me to feel such happiness in your special home built with love? I think not, its the magical reward bloggers receive when following and caring. Not only I but we all wish you great bliss living in this delightful Red cottage of many dreams and hard work.
Oh Nancy please don't leave us here at this point we want to see it furnished and lived in with joy.
xoxo,
Vera

ReplyDeleteYou are home!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is slowly looking really gorgeous! I wanted to tell you that I pinned your post entitled "35 Cottage Style Living Rooms that Inspire" several months ago and pretty every day I get a notification that someone has "liked" it. The cottage looking living room really speaks to a lot of people. Perhaps it's the happy colours! I know I love the red.
ReplyDeleteI've just had the most wonderful time reading from 1 to 14. I LOVE seeing a home from foundation to finish. Your dream is created. Looking forward to seeing your next posts. Love your kitchen sink and curtain and plant window.

ReplyDeleteFlowerLady
I AM SUPER EXCITED TO SEE THIS!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNancy, you have my dream sink, the FARMHOUSE SINK! And with the little curtain under it, oh are you ever going to have FUN in this house!!! You also feature something I'd like to do and my husband said he'd do it: the piece of wood above your little furnace. We have a wall on which I'd like a rough hewn mantle just like that to give the impression of a fireplace, but of course it would be a shelf....
Everything is looking so good; please show us MORE when you can! Anita
God's Grace indeed. Along with your vision, determination and hard work.
ReplyDeleteWell Done Nancy!
Congrats on getting the cottage done. After seeing the pictures today I cannot wait to see the rest.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you!!!!! I envy you too, getting to decorate that whole lovely space! Please let us in on all of it!
ReplyDeleteCould you tell us where you got the beautiful little black wire basket with the clear vase in it. What a pretty setting for the table. Thank you! Rita teach4life1@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for your question, Rita. I purchased the basket and vase (it's all one unit) at Simply Sandy's in Joseph, Oregon. They ship all over the country, and I'm sure if you contact them and tell them what you want they'll help you. Simply Sandy's is one of the very best home shopping experiences in the Pacific Northwest! (Some day I'll do a post just on Sandy's. I love her and her shop.) Here's the website link:http://simplysandys.com/ and you'll find the contact info there.
DeleteNancy, I can "feel" your excitement. Soooo happy for you!
ReplyDeleteNancy, I am so excited for you! It has been a long process, but now it is time to enjoy and just before Autumn weather arrives. Your sink is amazing and the skirt and flowers complete a perfect picture.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have so much fun decorating your beautiful Joyful Cottage and we are going to have so much fun visiting and seeing your finial touches :)
Have a marvelous weekend.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
