Do You Have Room?

I  sing the birth was born to-night
The author both of life and light;
The angels so did sound it.
And like the ravished shepherds said,
Who saw the light, and were afraid,
Yet searched and true they found it.

The Son of God, th' eternal king,
That did us all salvation bring,
And freed the soul from danger;
He whom the whole world could not take,
The Word, which heaven and earth did make,
was now laid in a manger.

The Father's wisdom willed it so,
The Son's obedience knew no No,
Both wills were in one stature;
And as that wisdom had decreed,
The Word was now made flesh indeed,
And took on him our nature.

What comfort by him do we win,
Who made himself the price of sin,
To make us heirs of glory!
To see this babe all innocence;
A martyr born in our defence:
Can man forget the story?

A Hymn on the Nativity of My Savior ~ Ben Johnson
Born in 1572, Ben Jonson is regarded as one of the major dramatists and poets
of the seventeenth century

My Christmas prayer for you dear friends is that you will rest
for just a moment more
 and allow this gentle song to speak to your heart. . .

  4. Ben Johnson...yes, one of the first poets I read in college, and the cadence of this poem sweet Nancy, is a joy to read aloud this morning. I am feeling lately like SHOUTING out loud the grace of God. The older I get, the more youthful I feel (on the inside!) because His life gives us an energy like nothing else. YES, I HAVE ROOM in my heart! And it is very much a gift to know you! Enjoy your day! Anita

  7. Nancy, thank you for sharing this post. I wasn't familiar with the song "Do you have room?", but as I listened—and especially as the children's faces appeared—my thoughts turned to many of the amazing people we work with at Hope Unlimited for Children who are the hands and feet of God to those around them. My prayer is that I will always be decluttering my life to make more and more room for God's love to fill me so it can overflow far beyond myself. Blessings to you and yours as you celebrate our Lord's birth.

  10. When I was a little girl we had the prettiest nativity scene that my mom would set upon the big tv in the basement (the tv came in a cabinet with roll back doors- remember those??). I used to sneak down and play with it, rearranging the baby and the animals, acting out the story of that night. It is one of my best childhood Christmas memories. Among all of the pretty lights and decor, that was my favorite Christmas accessory, because THAT was Christmas. Lovely song...

  11. A beautiful Nativity scene, Nancy, along with a sweet song. Setting up the Nativity scene always makes Christmas more meaningful, the birth of Jesus, felt in our homes, and in our hearts, in a scene of hope and light.

    Wishing you the merriest of Christmases!
