It's Friday, and that means I'm partying at Random 5 Friday, hosted by Nancy of A Rural Journal.
Here are five random facts about myself.
1. I have a weakness for ice cream. The past few years I've preferred soft serve over hand packed. My favorite is chocolate/vanilla swirl. Little Bear Drive-In in Wallowa, OR has the best ever. Very creamy.
2. Last Friday I finished my first quilting class. I now know how to make two blocks, and have made 10 so far.
3. I'm a freelance writer who loves applying God's word to life. In the past three years I've been blessed to contribute devotionals to Wesleyan Publishing's Light From the Word.

4. "The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn" is one of my (and my husband's) favorite movies. We watch this PG movie several times a year. It's a beautiful story of simplicity, loyalty, and friendship; starring Sidney Poitier. Every time I watch it I'm reminded that happiness isn't found in material possessions.
5. My version of Breakfast Tacos:
Saute chopped onions, minced garlic and whatever chopped veggies you like (in the photographed
tacos I used red and green peppers).
Whip up a few eggs, add them to the sauteed veggies in the pan, season with Mrs. Dash,
and cook until done, scrambling as you go.
Serve with warm corn tortillas, shredded cheddar cheese, salsa and sour cream.
Enjoy.
Thanks for stopping by today. Have a joyful weekend.

Now I want ice cream...and it's cold outside!!! I want to come and sit on your porch; it's so inviting! Aloha
ReplyDeleteI wish that was my porch. It's actually a photograph I took of The Fawn Brook Inn in Allenspark, Colorado. My husband and I were married there. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteOh ice cream now I want one. Congrats on the writing that is wonderful. I have never seen that movie but will look it up Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBreakfast tacos and now I want one of them. You have made me very hungry:) B
Maybe I should put a warning on my food posts. "Warning: viewing food photographs may cause an increase in appetite." :)
DeleteI've always read soft serve has few calories and no fat...big plus. Although, opening with ice cream and closing with that delicious looking breakfast taco...bad blogger! I'm SO hungry and not sure yogurt is going to be enough tonight.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, see my reply to Buttons above. :) We eat a lot of yogurt here; not a bad substitute for ice cream.
DeleteI'm hungry too after reading this post! I do make the breakfast dish often but have never served it on a tortilla. Going to do that as soon as I buy some whole wheat ones. I've never heard of the movie but love Dianne Wiest. She has such a sweet soft voice.
ReplyDeleteI knew you wrote but didn't know exactly what. I'm sure you put in a lot of time on what you write and it must be very satisfying to be a part of that.
Dewena, the first time I had a breakfast taco was in Arroyo Seco, NM at the Taos Cow café. It was served with a strip of bacon on top. The corn tortilla made that dish; the bacon didn't hurt either. :)
DeleteI need to make myself familiar with this movie. Pronto.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you'll be disappointed. If you do see the movie, I'd like to know what you think of it.
DeleteGreat Randoms . . . breakfast tacos sound yummy!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynne. I like anything in a tortilla. ;)
DeleteI just added the movie to my Netflix list....thanks for that recommendation. It sounds like one I will love, and always Love Sidney P. in anything.
ReplyDeletePoitier is one of the best.
DeleteShould have ask you if you have seen The Last Brickmaker in America...I bet you would like it, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation, Rose. We're having a lazy Saturday afternoon here, and my husband just ordered The Last Brickmaker in America from Amazon after I told him of your comment. Can't wait to see the movie; from the description it sounds like a heartwarming story. And a personal recommendation makes it even better. :)
DeleteI love getting learn little things about my blog friends. This was fun and interesting. It doesn't surprise me that you have been published. Congrats on that! I have never heard of that movie, but love Sidney Poitier. I must see! Oh, now that you have started quilting I'm sure it won't be long until you are an addict like many of us. lol!
ReplyDeleteJann, I'm already dreaming about potential quilting projects. :)
DeleteAs cold as it is outside ... I now want an ice cream cone!!!!! :-D
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I enjoyed visiting!
Thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy.
DeleteWhat a fun post. Good for you for quilting. I hear it is a great hobby!
ReplyDeleteCheers from Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!
I had to come back here to see what started the conversation about movies originally...I had it in my queue at Netflix but moved this to the top. And have you watched Gifted Hands, the Ben Carson Story? It is another movie that has that good old fashioned feel to it.
ReplyDeleteRose, we have seen Gifted Hands, and liked it very much. Very inspirational.
DeleteOh, I finally got Noah Dearborn and just finished watching it...LOVED it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you might like the video I featured in this post: http://picsandpiecing.blogspot.com/2008/07/one-of-seven.html
I don't know why I feel the inclination to tell you to listen to it...I think I have just been in a mood today and the movie just fit with my mood and I had been listening to this video. It is just music but my brother put a slide show to it.
Again, I loved the movie. And did you see Blindside? Just thought of it...another great movie. And Radio....I actually can't remember much about Radio just remember really liking it.
Hi Rose. Yes, I have seen Blindside and Radio. We own both movies. They're really wonderful films. Lately we've seen some really wonderful movies on Netflix, too. I can't recall all the titles just now. I'm off to watch your brother's video. Thanks so much for taking the time to share all this with me. Your movies are always good recommendations, Rose. Again, thank you. Hugs.
