Laundry Ceiling Light and Guest Bath Project

 

Since I moved into my home two years ago, I've been slowly updating the ceiling light fixtures.  So far I've completed light makeovers in my bedroom and the kitchen for under $10 each, and I've replaced the entry light with a new fixture. While browsing Pinterest recently I saw a DIY ceiling light makeover that utilized a basket, and I wanted to replicate that idea in my laundry.

Welcome to the eighty-third post in the series

Situated on Schwan Lagoon, the interior of Reed's 500 sq ft cottage is filled with antiques and vintage finds. Originally a food safe, the large antique cupboard behind the sofa now serves as a craft cabinet.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, natural light is critical in a small space. The large windows in this home really open up the rooms and enlarge them visually.

A corner of the living room serves as a home office. Collected dolls add a whimsical touch. I doubt I'd get much work done if I had this view. (Notice the binoculars on the desk?)

Painted floors add so much character. The color is Duxbury Grey by Benjamin Moore.

Corner windows create a lovely spot for dining in the kitchen.

I love these botanicals held by old clipboards found at a flea market. Such a great idea.

A "funky 60's" upper cabinet was replaced by an old galvanized shelf.

Feeling that the new granite backsplash in the kitchen didn't fit her vintage style, Reed covered it with linen. The house is a rental, so the glued-on linen is easily removed, if necessary.  (She lives alone and feels the white linen is "not too scary", she can always add a new patch if one gets stained.) 

She also added a vintage mirror to another portion of the kitchen.

The charming mudroom holds extra dishes, as well as outerwear.

The bedroom is a mere 88 sq ft. Reed designed a queen-size bed with extra height to accommodate storage baskets. An old gate was repurposed into a headboard.

I'm glad you could join me in touring this charming cottage. I must confess that the more I scrolled through the photos the more I loved the home and its location. This will remain one of my very favorite small spaces that truly lives large.

On another note, I've decided that this post will be my last at A Joyful Cottage. At least for the summer, most likely indefinitely. I've been thinking and praying about this decision for awhile, so when I was offered out of the blue a part-time job at a local retail nursery (my dream job) I knew the Lord had answered my prayer. It's time to close down the blog and move on to other things. (I've still got a long bucket list in my pocket.)

I've accomplished everything I set out to do at A Joyful Cottage and I feel I'm ending on a very positive note. So, for now I'm. . . 

I'm going to leave A Joyful Cottage blog up; not taking it down. Who knows? Things could change and I might be back. I plan to utilize my Instagram account more now and will enjoy posting photos of our continuing progress with landscaping, repurposing projects, and other cottage happenings. I hope you'll visit me there.

Thanks so much for all the encouragement and warm fuzzies you've showered on me these past few years. I've made some incredible friendships through blogging and don't regret one minute I've spent at the keyboard.

So, from here on out I'll be a "follower" only. Somehow I don't mind one bit.

Every Room In The House Party - #5

Creating a Pretty Cottage Bathroom - DIY Renovation  by Anne of Design Dreams by Anne.  If I was to give an award for The Most Amazing DIY Accomplishment by a Blogger, this would be it.  You just have to see Anne's fabulous work, which included taking the walls all the way down to the studs and rebuilding them herself.  Huh?  Yeah, you read that right.  She taught herself how to use power tools and do the remodel herself.

 

My Master Bathroom Update! by Terry of Forever Decorating.  This bathroom is so romantic,  so very stunning, that it's no wonder Terry uses an exclamation point in the title.  I'm doing cartwheels, and it's not even my bathroom.

Perfume Bar by Penny at Penny's Vintage Home.  Penny just keeps coming up with great ideas.  Honestly, how much fun would it be to be a guest in Penny's home where you can "try on" perfume in her guest bath?  Would you ever want to leave?  I know I wouldn't.

JoAnne of A Pocketful of Blue showed off her kid's bathroom in New Bathroom With All the Fun Stuff.  The bathroom was enlarged and decorated age appropriately.  I love what JoAnne did with color, some industrial touches, and fun wall décor. 

Along with being a savvy decorator and crafty crafter, my friend Kim at Exquisitely Unremarkable is a remarkable writer.  She's a little Martha Stewart and a whole lot Erma Bombeck.  Her post Irreconcilable Differences about "proper colored tissue boxes" in the bathroom had me in stitches.  Seriously, Kim keeps me from looking at life (and decorating) too seriously. 

Terry at Forever Decorating gave us a look at her Updated Guest Bath Reveal.  Terry's eye for design really shows in the details of this bathroom.  I know you'll love it.

If you're a fan of farmhouse style, then you won't want to miss Jann's Basement Bath Reveal at Have a Daily Cup of Mrs. Olson.  In typical Mrs. Olson fashion, Jann does a smashing job of using an old dresser for the charming vanity, and fills the bath with one-of-a-kind accessories.

Jann gives us another glimpse of her extraordinary decorating skills in her Birdie Bath.  I love her granddaughter's comment "Grandma, if you have a theme you go all out."  Yup, that says it all. :)

Diana at Adirondack Girl @ Heart joined the party with her master bathroom reveal in Master Bath Tour with a Focus on Vintage.  From the gorgeous archway over the tub to the delightful print on the wall, this bathroom is classy; like an expensive spa.

Diana gives us a closer look at that pretty bathroom stool in Giving New Life to an Old (Vintage) Stool.  This is a very nice makeover.

Debbie at Lakehouse provides a look at her very pretty upstairs' bath in Bathroom Redo. . .Done.  Love her shabby chic bath curtain and vintage hamper.
