Living Large In Small Spaces - The Parisian Cottage

The Parisian Cottage in Colorado Springs is this week's Living Large In Small Spaces featured home.

Welcome to the ninety-ninth post in the series
"Living Large in Small Spaces".

As a former Colorado resident who has spent time in most parts of the state, Colorado Springs remains one of my favorite places. I only wish I'd known about this charming cottage when I last stayed there.

Dreamy, romantic. . .call it what you will, today's Living Large In Small Spaces featured cottage is a gem.

The cheerful yellow, and white trim cottage has an enticing front porch . Even without the "welcome" on the door, one can feel a gracious invitation to enter.

Originally built in 1909, the fully remodeled cottage has been featured in popular periodicals such as Country Living, Huffington Post and USA Today.

Karen, the owner, chose a cream, white and soft pink color palette to create serene and romantic rooms.

Items brought back from her trips to Europe fill the cottage. Obviously, France had a major influence in her choice of decor.

Eiffel towers show up in various forms throughout the cottage.

Found in salt and pepper shakers. . .

Adorning the wall. . .

And whimsically decorating the refrigerator.

I love the glass knob on the bathroom door.

And the gorgeous ceiling light. Having the washer and dryer in the bathroom is often necessary in a tiny home. Here the pretty curtain hides them from view when not in use. I like that idea.

The bedroom is very romantic. From the chandelier over the bed. . .

to the fleur-de-lis headboard, plush bedding. . .

and filmy curtain pulled around the bed. All combine to create an air of romance.

And then there's the outdoor spaces.

The backyard cottage garden is nothing short of amazing.

Charming arches and pathways.

Lush gardens.

A beautiful place to unwind.

How about you -- what do you most like about this sweet cottage?

Thank you, Karen, for allowing me to share your enchanting cottage.

  1. No question for me! The charming back yard is my favorite part of this property. (Everything else is very sweet, too...)

  2. Could that place get any cuter, Nancy? It is really, really sweet and I could move right in. xo Diana

  3. You don't need a Welcome Mat when you have an inviting table with cute chairs on the front porch!
The inside was void of any bright colors, which I think goes well with a small cottage. The outside bright yellow is enough and perfect.

  4. Congratulations on your 99th post in the series...the next one should include some fireworks!!! :)

This is such a charming cottage. The French touches are very sweet. I love the color scheme, and the black and white dining area is a nice contrast to keep the flow of rooms from getting stale. And I LOVE that garden!!

    Thanks so much!

    Easter blessings!

  6. This little cottage captured my heart the moment I saw it! Of course the yellow and white exterior was my first clue that I would love what I saw inside - and outside! Thank you for sharing it with us. Happy Easter, dear friend, from somewhere in Northern California. We will be spending Easter Sunday with my dear father's family. It's a first in many, many years and such a blessing for all of us.

  7. It's SO adorable and the curb appeal is what I'm most impressed with. The backyard gardens are amazing! I'd be drinking my morning cup of coffee at the sweet table on the terrace outside the back door. Thanks for sharing, Nancy, and have a Happy Easter!

  8. I loved the yellow . . .
    Splashes of red . . .
    Paris and Eiffel . . .
    Curtainy romance . . .
    Small . . . seeming enough . . .
    And then the gardens . . .
    Oh my . . .
    A charmer for the ninety-ninth . . .

  9. Oh my gosh. Super sweet...there are just so many charming details in this one, too many to list. It actually reminds me a lot of my first home. There are a lot of these cottages in my neighborhood. Maybe that's why I like it so much! ;) Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the 100th post! Happy Easter my friend. xoxo

  10. It's such a wonderful small space - perfect for one and so much better than renting an apartment.
The size of the garden - which looks like a real 'cottage garden' - would probably allow for adding an addition, or even better a smaller guest cottage, in the future.
Love the Eiffel Tower decal on the 'frig door!

Thanks for sharing Nancy - happy Easter.

  11. Such a cute and sweet cottage. I love the yellow and white. Always wanted a yellow sweet little cottage. Something about the white and yellow together on a cottage. Love it! I could move into this sweet place in a minute. Happy Easter.

  12. Is this not the most adorable thing! It's like a painting of a storybook cottage not a real one. It would be hard to leave that gorgeous yard and go inside but inside is sweet as can be too. My favorite is the darling kitchen with its sophisticated touches of black.

    Happy Easter, Nancy,

  15. Oh, my word! This is just adorable...and all a small family would ever need. I LOVE the simplicity of it, and the way she has it decorated is just beautiful. I so enjoy these posts...they are just such a blessing...as are you, sweet friend. Happy Easter!! God bless you. :)

  16. THAT is the most darling little house!!!!! I am usually not a lover of yellow, but the diminutive state of the house and the white trim really make this yellow cottage very special. The white trim is essential. Then there's the inside, nice and simple. Its sparseness makes it perfect for a residence AND rental, because it's cozy enough without being cluttered. PERFECTION!

  17. I am now entering my "yellow" stage ha ha, and I am being attracted to yellow for some reason. I think the cottage is darling.

  18. Oh my, all I had to do is look at that front porch and I wanted this little house. I was surprised though at the soft colors inside after such a bright outside. The soft palate inside is so relaxing and romantic. My least favorite is the dining room. Something cold and sterile about it. Everything else is perfection. My favorite as usual is the outside. The cozy relaxed feeling of the backyard transports you to France. Simple, elegant and cozy. Like it a lot. Hope your Easter was blessed. I had a rough time as usual because of the anniversary of my Jim's passing. HUgs my friend.

  19. It's a sweet little home. I once remodeled a condo and the washer and dryer were in the bathroom. I wish I had photos. It was before digital. I made it work. Put shelving in with all matching wicker baskets. The bathroom looked so stylish when I was done. It was a modern style. Totally different than this home. xoxo Su

  20. This is a darling cottage. I love the soft colour and the way the light flows in each room. The owner added romantic touches everywhere and that tighs the rooms together.

  21. That is a gorgeous cottage! It's a great place for a romantic get away with the love of your life! Whau! I love the colors used throughout the cottage.

  22. I've always been partial to yellow and white cottages. They're just so welcoming and cheerful. I think I've seen this cottage, perhaps in one of the publications you mentioned, but I don't believe I've ever seen the inside. It's decorated to perfection! Not too cluttered or busy, which one has to be careful of with such a small space.

What stands out is how thoughtful each detail is. The layout is fabulous, and makes the most of the small rooms. The kitchen isn't closed in and seems to have all the essentials at your fingertips. I could see this cute little house being a VERY popular rental on airbnb!

    And the gardens! So romantic!
