A Heart for Pastel

About a month ago I found this easel-hook-stand-thingy at a thrift store for 50 cents. I didn't have any idea how I would use it, but it was just too cute (and too inexpensive) to pass up.

It occurred to me a few days ago that with Valentine's Day just around the corner I could hang a heart from the stand's hook.

So, from my stash of fabrics and lace, buttons and such, I made this heart today. The stitched "Love" is my first stab at hand embroidery (no pun intended).

Now I have a pretty little Valentine decoration for mere pennies.

I like that.

Have you ever bought something at a thrift store that you just couldn't pass up even though you didn't know what you'd do with it?

  2. This makes a delightful little vignette for the holidays, just think of the possibilities that you could change out for the seasons or holidays! LOVE your "love" stitching, and little heart, just darling! It has been so long since I have done any handwork, I am quite rusty. Yours looks like you're a pro at this, I would have never known it was your first "stab" at it :)

  3. I get things all the time because I fell in love with them and usually do not have a place or idea for them. Some how everything I have ever brought home always finds a place. This is really cute with your sweet Valentines heart. Have a great evening.

  4. How sweet. Could it be a cup and saucer stand?

    1. Yes, that's probably what it is. I really hadn't thought of that. Maybe because I have not cup and saucers to display. LOL

  5. Good morning Nancy! It's fun to find small treasures! In fact, we have a really great thrift store a few blocks from our house called HIDDEN TREASURES, and I've found some wonderful vintage items there. I love it when I can simply walk to this place (in the summer of course!) and walk home with a little goodie in a paper bag.

    Have a fun day!

  6. How sweetly romantic! Great little metal piece and the price was right! Your heart is pretty. I think you did great for your first bit of embroidery, now you'll want to do more and learn stitches too. :-) It's addicting.

  8. lol I can't tell you how many times I have done this. I love your little heart and that is a great first time embroidery stitch. Once I am settled I plan on making more hearts for my Etsy shop. Problem is I want to keep them when I make them. LOL

  11. I love thrifting, looking & pondering usages. Our 8 year old grandson lives with us. He loves to go thrift-store shopping. He's usually very thoughtful saying things like "what would I use this for?" or "would I use this?" so, often his 'finds' remain in the store. But he's a fun shopper. This past week he had been home bound & out of school for a few days with illness (hospital ER visit with IV fluids, lots of medications, etc.), so after our most recent pediatrician visit, he said "I think I need a few minutes at a thrift store!". Funny how much fun & comfort one can find in the local thrift store!

    2. Thanks for your reply. My grandson is much better and back to school. That day after his pediatrician visit, we went to a local thrift store -he chose two shirts and a book. A few days later, we spotted a sign for a new thrift/consignment store. When I asked if he wanted to stop, he absolutely wanted to stop there. He looked at a few items, and then came and whispered "their prices are too high. I can buy that car at Kroger's for less." (meaning, brand new toys at the grocery store are cheaper than this store of used items.) After a few more minutes, he whispered: "I don't think they will be open much longer if they keep these prices." I LOVE this child! I complimented him on being an informed shopper.

It is so much fun to see things that are no longer wanted get a new home :)
