Living Large In Small Spaces - Kent Cottage

Now that I've returned from my hiatus, I hope you're ready to jump back into the weekly series Living Large In Small Spaces.

This charming cottage in Kent, England popped up on my screen while searching online for Christmas decorating inspiration. Once I saw it I knew it would be the right home to share during the holiday season.

Welcome to the eighty-fourth post in the series
"Living Large in Small Spaces".

Kent Cottage

The duck egg blue door opens into a romantic and whimsical cottage.

Kent Cottage

Exposed beams, nooks and crannies. . .everything I crave in an old-world cottage.

Kent Cottage

The cottage has few windows and small rooms. Light colored walls, ceilings and furnishings brighten the space, and mirrors reflect the light and give the illusion of depth.

Kent Cottage

There's an elegant informality about this room.

Kent Cottage

Exposed aged brick makes a nice contrast to the light walls and adds warmth, as well as character.

Kent Cottage

The furnishings have a fairy tale quality.

Kent Cottage

I have to say that I love the Christmas decorations in this cottage.

Kent Cottage

Some natural and rustic, some sophisticated and refined. . .little surprises everywhere.

A beautiful crowned swan under a cloche lends an air of enchantment.

Unfitted kitchens like this one remind me of my grandfather's cottage kitchen, where as a child I spent many happy Sunday afternoons playing gin rummy and drinking 7-up. Maybe that's why I'm so drawn to them.

Kent Cottage

Notice the scalloped edges of the table's top? So interesting.

Now this is what I call a cottage kitchen.

I'm ready to start a star collection after seeing all the ones displayed in this home.

Kent Cottage

There's seems to be a lot of storage in this small kitchen.

Kent Cottage

Two bedrooms upstairs possess as much charm as the rest of the cottage.

Kent Cottage

I really like the patchwork quilt in this bedroom.

I like the fact that the bed is unpainted. It's a beautiful piece and deserves to stand out against all the white, in my humble opinion.

Is it possible to have too many pillows?

I hope you enjoyed seeing this cottage in Kent as much as I did. (Warning: Like me, you may need to scroll through the post a few times to catch all the delights.)

  1. Wow! You're right--I WILL have to scroll over this again. AND again. Too much charm to comment on each feature individually....but mostly I'm amazed at the coziness of it that comes with the absence of a lot of windows! (Our home doesn't have a lot of windows and - until now - I've lamented that...)

  2. I am so glad you are back!!! I LOVE this sweet place. I saved it too look at it again in closer detail. I don't know that I could live without more exterior light coming in though. Although, it is pretty bright with the mirror usage, etc. I think it is just charming and I love it-xo Diana

  4. Love this!! It kind of looks like a Hobbit home!

What do you call the walls like that...plaster, rock...looks so natural and rustic. I suppose it is natural in this house? Is it old enough to have had the walls built that way, rather than made to look old timey?

  5. Well, this is just the most beautiful cottage...elegant and rustic in the perfect amounts of both! I have had to scroll several times and I am sure I'll be back to peek again, but at the moment that goose under glass is my favorite element! And now I want one. ;) So glad you're back Nancy!! You always share such unique content and it's so refreshing! xo

  9. Wow, so many interesting things to look at in this cottage. You are right, I must scroll through it again. I do like the tree the best the first time through. Oh and the clock, the table, of course the quilt. Ok I like a lot of it. LOL

I found another house, made an offer on Friday. Sellers are in Peru. I hope they are easy in touch with. :)

    Have a blessed Sunday.

  10. Everything is a little "too much" for me in this cottage. But I love the cosiness of the rooms, the exposed beams and the Emma Bridgewater dishes!

  12. Nancy, I am SO glad you are back for so many reasons. Though I am no longer blogging, I am still visiting my favorite blogs, and you are one of them. This cottage is perfect. PERFECT! As I look at each room, I am spying all the elements that make for this enchanted forest cottage look. Natural elements, wood, exposed beams, fur, and well placed whimsical items are what I see that WORKS. I am trying to incorporate all of these feelings in my home. Another great share my friend!

  13. I was wrapped in awe, instantly, by the sweet, soft, perfect, blue of the front entrance door.
    Bell on the right . . .
    Silver letter post . . .
    Door handle . . . .
No doubt about it, the detail was intricate throughout.
I appreciated the natural of the one bed . . . history there, no doubt . . .
    And the only red I remember, . . . three packages atop an armorie . . .
Simple, stunningly beautuful Kent cottage . . .

    Plus a few more subtle touches . . .
    Loved, loved this cottage . . .

  15. Thank you for bringing this feature back, Nancy! You've shown us a perfectly charming cottage today! I love the use of all white tones for a peaceful look, even though the cottage is filled with collections. The low ceilings bring a nice cozy feel to the home. I love the swan and the chair upholstered with fabric labeled "post office".

  17. Oh my what a beautiful cottage. The exposed brick and that fabulous fireplace in the dining. Gorgeous. So much detail and history in this beautiful place. I am going back over the pics too. Sooo much to take in. Glad you have your series again. I loved it.

  19. I LOVE this little cottage! I could move right in - just take a few clothes and my toothbrush and I would be a happy girl! I don't think it's possible to have too many pillows but there has to be a plan to keep them somewhere when you crawl under the covers of the bed at night! Like you, I could collect stars. I've thought of using more stars in my Christmas decorating. I'm headed back to the source link to see more. This is one I have to study and study again!

  20. Nancy, I am so delighted that you have decided to continue with your "Living Large in Small Spaces" series! This selection is such a charming one. There are SO many gorgeous details that just take my breath away, but can we just talk about that swan in the cloche? Oh my, I don't know if I've ever seen anything so perfect ;) And you're right about the fairy tale quality of the furnishings and decor in this cottage. I definitely took a little vacation through your fun-filled post! Happy Holidays and hugs to you!

  23. I've hardly been online for the past month but I am on today and happened to click over to your site and found you are posting again. Sweet!
One reason I've been gone is that I've been in England, mostly Dorset! So I've loved seeing this old cottage and remembering the places I saw last month.

  24. Ohh...I adore every single thing in this home. I especially love that amazing sofa, the crosses and that pie safe. The colors are so lovely and those sheets and screen with matching fabric is beautiful. I could step inside and never come out. And that says a lot in my book because I am a total outside kinda gal. One of the most beautifully decorated homes I have ever set my eyes on. Thanks for sharing this amazing and stunning home.
