Living Large In Small Spaces - Sausalito Houseboat

Thirty-fifth post in the series
"Living Large in Small Spaces"

Welcome Cottage Friends to another edition of Living Large In Small Spaces.

Have you ever wanted to live in a houseboat?

I have. In fact, it's a fantasy of mine.

A sweet little floating cottage like this one would suit me just fine.

When I came across this charming houseboat I just had to share it with you. Located in Sausalito, California, this 1,056 sf charmer is currently for sale, listed by Michele Affronte of Bradley Real Estate. It's completely out of my price range. . .but this is my fantasy, remember? Price doesn't matter in Fantasyland.

Let's cross the little bridge and tour this gem, shall we?

We enter into a bright and cheerful eat-in kitchen.

Arched windows add character and bring lots of light into the room.

Neutral paint on the walls and white cabinetry keep the space light and bright.

The kitchen has a lot of storage, and the bar provides work space for food prep.

The living room boasts an artist designed concrete, glass and shell gas fireplace.

Sliding doors lead to the deck.

Window treatment is minimal and simple. Who wants to cover up those gorgeous views?

Organic wool carpet covers the hallway and bedroom floors. I love the built-in shelves.

There are two en-suite bedrooms.

The floating cottage is hooked up to city sewer and water. Very convenient.

The deck affords lovely views of the bay and Mt. Tam.

Could you live full-time in a place like this?

If you're interested in this listing you can find it here

I received no compensation for sharing this home with you.  I just think it's a sweet spot.

  5. Sundays are sweet for so many reasons, but my mornings are always wonderful because I know you will post something charming. THIS is such a great find, Nancy! I would love to rent a place like this on vacation! Wouldn't that be the ultimate beach getaway experience? Every part of the vacation would be magical, beginning your mornings here, ending the day to come and eat and sleep in such a sweet floating cottage!

I love the colors - so bright and inviting, letting the scenic ocean views take center stage. This was done RIGHT!

    Enjoy your Sunday! ANita

  6. Fabulous tour, Nancy! It is super charming and super pricey! I love boating, but after a while the movement gets to me. This may be the first time I say, it looks like a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there! ;-)

  8. Hi Nancy,
How sweet is this house boat. I am not sure I would want to live on water all the time but what a great place to escape to for a vacation spot. Very sweet.

  9. Fabulous cottage on the water. I think they are stretching "boat" a lot here. I lived on a sailboat Twice and loved it. Our neighbors the second time had a sweet little houseboat where they had several of us "boat people" gather every evening at 5:30 sharp for a social hour. In their younger years (they were in there 90s at the time we lived there) they would travel the Intercoastal Waterway. We did not have a lawn to take care of but boat maintenance is just as time consuming and expensive. Especially for the yearly trip to the boat yard for hauling cleaning and painting of the bottom. Might I add pricey too.

Boat living was fun, relaxing and peaceful but also stressful during storms and hurricane prep. It is an experience I would not trade for anything, but out of my system now. Unless I could afford this house on the water and someone to maintain it.

  13. I can't believe that is a house boat, it is only a few sq ft smaller than my home (1128)! It's beautiful! It's hard to see from the outside how large it looks inside! So nice! Blessings, Cindy
